Chayce Jones takes over Hugh Greenwood’s No. 1 guernsey as a number of young Crows make a switch

The Tasmanian tradition continues in the No. 1 jumper at the Crows with Chayce Jones taking over the guernsey from Hugh Greenwood, as a number of young - and new - Crows select their playing numbers for 2020.

There’s a new No. 1 at the Crows with teenager Chayce Jones taking over the guernsey left vacant by fellow Tasmanian Hugh Greenwood.

Jones, the Crows’ first selection in the 2018 draft, goes from 20 to 1, after playing eight games in his debut season.

He’s added size to his slight frame and looks set for more midfield minutes in 2020.

“I’ve tried to put on a bit of size, so it’s nice to keep it (running times) relatively similar to last year while putting on a few kilos,” Jones said after taking on Adelaide’s 2km time trial on Saturday.

“I definitely want to push myself to get in there (the midfield)... when you come in as a first-year player your training loads are a bit lighter, so it’s nice to get stuck straight into full training now.”

After wearing the No. 14 jumper in his three appearances for the Power, recruit Billy Frampton will don the No. 22, previously worn by 109-game Crow Andy Otten, in the tri-colours.

Small-forward Lachlan Murphy will also shift lockers in 2020, taking over No. 4 - his favourite number - from Josh Jenkins, who played 136 games in the jumper before being traded to Geelong.

“Being next to two big ruckman in (Kieran) Strachan and (Reilly) O’Brien leant me towards going to a different number,” Murphy joked on the club’s website.

“Two ruckmen, they spread their stuff everywhere, big size 15 shoes on my locker… It’s not the greatest.”

Second-year defender Will Hamill will also change jumpers numbers next season, from No. 35 to No. 17, which became vacant after forward Tyson Stengle inherited the No. 18 guernsey from the departed Eddie Betts.
