ADELAIDE rising star nominee Tom Doedee has revealed Brownlow Medallist Dustin Martin gave him the silent treatment as they lined up on the weekend.
Doedee, playing in just his second AFL game, naturally felt some nerves when lining up on the best player in the game — Martin won the Brownlow Medal and Norm Smith Medal in Richmond’s landmark premiership last season.
But he has revealed Martin gave Doedee the cold shoulder rather than trying to intimidate him.
“It was a bit of a surreal moment matching up on ‘Dusty’ for a bit,” Doedee said. “But outside of that I was pretty comfortable.
“At first, I was just, ‘That’s Dusty, the Brownlow Medallist,’ but after that it was just footy.
“Once you get over the white line you just kind of play.
“(He didn’t say anything.) Nothing at all.”
Meanwhile, fellow Crows defender Rory Laird was one of seven players to receive the full compliment of coaches’ votes in Round 2.
It has Laird equal second behind Tom Mitchell on the leaderboard after he also polled well in the Crows’ loss to Essendon in Round 1.
The players who received maximum votes in Round 2 were Laird, Ben Brown (North Melbourne), Stephen Coniglio (GWS), Shannon Hurn (West Coast), Tom Lynch (Gold Coast), Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn) and Nathan Wilson (Fremantle).
Port Adelaide’s highest-placed player is Ollie Wines with 10 votes.
