WOODVILLE-West Torrens veteran Scott Lewis will make his first appearance for the season in the league side when the Eagles confront Sturt at Unley Oval on Sunday.
Lewis has played the past four weeks in the reserves after missing the start to the season because of his honeymoon and he has been promoted on the back of two best-on-ground performances.
Classy defender Matthew Goldsworthy also returns to the Eagles line-up after shrugging off a thigh injury.
“Scott has looked up and about, energetic, in the past two weeks and I’m happy with what he is producing,” Eagles coach Michael Godden said.
“He has earnt his spot back.”
Lewis’ experience will be valuable against the high quality Double Blues midfield which advertised its brilliance when it beat Port Adelaide’s AFL onball brigade on Anzac Day.
While the Double Blues bounced back from the loss to North Adelaide with the impressive victory over Port, the Eagles are coming off a narrow defeat to the Roosters when Godden questioned the effort of his players.
“Watching the game I thought we tried hard, but watching it back we got outworked, there was a lack of intensity,” Godden said.
“Sturt is a very good footy side. They are a stable side and get things done.
“It is a really good challenge for our group coming off the back of a poor week. To play arguably the best team in the comp at their home ground, that is how you want to respond.”
