Barossa, Light and Gawler
Tanunda v Angaston
Tanunda, Saturday @ 2.20pm
The most anticipated match of the season so far as the fierce rivals fight for top spot in what is widely tipped to be a grand final preview.
Dean Terlich’s Tanunda goes into the game undefeated and with the mental edge after winning their Round 2 contest by a solitary point following a controversial free kick that is still being talked about.
The loss has been the only blemish on Angaston’s season and Jay Shannon’s star-studded Panthers will be eager to turn the tables, particularly going into its Winter Gala.
It should be an absolute ripper.
The South Gawler and Barossa District clash, decided by three points last time, could also have a big bearing on finals, with Leigh Ryswyk in hot form for the Dogs.
Southern
Flagstaff Hill v Noarlunga
Flagstaff Hill Oval, Saturday @ 2.30pm
The top-of-the-table battle between reigning premier Flagstaff Hill and Noarlunga should prove to be a cracker.
Noarlunga sits top and is still undefeated after nine rounds, while the Falcons are second with an 8-1 record — their only loss was against the Shoes by 62 points in round two.
Flagstaff Hill will be desperate to not only avenge the defeat it suffered against Noarlunga back in April but also be the first team to knock the Shoes off their perch.
Both sides will enter the clash full of confidence — Noarlunga enjoyed a 55-point victory against Reynella last weekend, while Flagstaff Hill held Happy Valley to just 10 points to claim a 93-point triumph.
Mallee
Peake v Karoonda
Peake, Saturday @ 2.30pm
The chance to be the first club to inscribe its name on a new perpetual trophy will provide added motivation when arch-rivals Peake and Karoonda square off in the inaugural Murraylands Cup on Saturday.
Peake and District and Karoonda Districts are the sole remaining clubs from the defunct Murraylands league, which merged with the Lameroo and Districts league to form the Mallee league in 1994.
Peake has had the wood on Karoonda over the past few years, but the second-placed Mallee Magpies will start favourite after winning the past two contests, including a 10-point win in last year’s preliminary final and a 13-point win in Round 5.
The fifth-placed Lions will be desperate for its fourth win of the season to stay in touch with the top four while the Magpies will want to stay in striking distance of ladder-leader Pinnaroo.
The match at Peake will also double as a reunion day for the Lions, who will wear replica guernseys from the 1970s and celebrate the club’s 1979 and 1980 A-grade premierships.
Riverland Independent
Ramco v Blanchetown Swan Reach
Ramco Oval, Saturday @ 2.30pm
The Ramco Football Netball Club will celebrate its 110 year anniversary against former Mid Murray Football League rival Blanchetown Swan Reach in a big day at its home ground on Saturday.
Ramco is sitting fourth on 5-3 but was given a touch up by Lyrup last week and is desperate for wins to shore up a return to finals.
The Redbacks, meanwhile, are already one up on last year’s win tally and will back themselves for a third scalp after getting within two points of the Roosters at Blanchetown in Round 2.
The Ramco players will don a heritage jumper to celebrate their long and proud history.
Great Southern
Langhorne Creek v McLaren
Langhorne Creek, Saturday @ 2.390pm
The ripping Great Southern league season will add another level of intrigue when grand final combatants Langhorne Creek and McLaren meet again on Saturday.
The Hawks backed up their grand final triumph and got the points in Round 2 but is now languishing in seventh, though just percentage out of the five.
The Hawks come off a 64-point belting from fellow finals contender Encounter Bay but have bolstered its playing list ahead of the transfer deadline, including the addition of former Woodville-West Torrens livewire forward Loccy McGregor.
McLaren is sitting in fourth but just a point off second spot and will be after more blood after dishing out a 90-point hiding to cellar-dweller Goolwa-Pt Elliot which posted its first win a week earlier.
Adelaide Footy League
Division four
Colonel Light Gardens v Mitcham
Mortlock Park, Saturday @ 2.15pm
A local derby between Colonel Light Gardens and Mitcham is a highlight not to be missed in round 11.
The two teams might be separated by plenty on the ladder — Mitcham is second with a 7-3 record while Colonel Light Gardens is bottom with just one win — but the match is set to be hotly contested as they vie for the Murray/John Ellis Shield
Ray Murray is a premiership player with the Hawks, while John Ellis is a great at the Lions.
The shield is a way to honour the two legends after both died from heart attacks.
