South Adelaide can take a huge step to finals action by beating Port Adelaide in SANFL

SOUTH Adelaide can stake a huge claim for a finals berth with a win against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval, but a loss can seriously hurt. See the Round 16 teams and each club’s run home.

SOUTH Adelaide just needs to look at the SANFL ladder for evidence of the value of the two premiership points when it drives to Alberton Oval to tackle Port Adelaide on Saturday.

The Panthers are two games clear of Central District and West Adelaide with four rounds remaining.

Should they conquer Port and the Bulldogs lose to Sturt at Unley Oval and the Bloods get beaten by Glenelg at the Bay, the Panthers will be all but guaranteed a finals berth given they also have hefty percentage advantages.

However, a Panthers loss puts their season in a precarious position as they face the Double Blues, Woodville-West Torrens and Norwood, the three tops teams, to finish the minor round.

The Redlegs and Eagles are guaranteed finals action. North Adelaide will join them with a win over Adelaide at Prospect Oval on Saturday and the Bulldogs and Bloods lose. The Double Blues are safe if they beat the Bulldogs on Sunday and the Bloods lose.

All but the Crows can still play in the finals, though Port and the Tigers would need a heap of miracles.

The Redlegs will take a massive step closer to the minor premiership and the bye in the opening week of the finals if they beat second-placed Eagles at The Parade on Friday night. A win for the hosts will lift them a game and a half above the Eagles.
