Adelaide state league coach Heath Younie had emphasised the quality of Myles Poholke’s performance in the first half against South Adelaide at Noarlunga yesterday with his claim it rivals the best SANFL football he has witnessed.
Younie, who had a distinguished career with North Adelaide, said he was proud of the response from the youngster after he was dropped from the AFL side after just one game.
Poholke had 22 disposals, 15 in the first quarter, and four goals at half-time in the draw.
“It is difficult for a young kid and it is easy to get caught up in that,” Younie said. “Wowee, that first half is as good as I have seen in the SANFL.
“I’m proud of his effort, not just his numbers, but his attitude to come and compete.”
Key forward Josh Jenkins, sent back to the state league side this week, finished with two behinds, but created opportunities for teammates.
Younie said it was a tough day for forwards at both ends of the ground in the windy conditions and praised Jenkins for his fantastic attitude after playing in Melbourne one week and Noarlunga the next.
“I’m always thankful for guys coming back and bringing a positive attitude,” he said.
