South Adelaide’s Peter Rolfe will miss the rest of the SANFL season due to a knee injury
THE career of injury-plagued South Adelaide forward Peter Rolfe is under a cloud after he damaged his knee at training, just days after playing his first league game in two years.
SOUTH Adelaide forward Peter Rolfe’s career has been dealt another devastating setback after damaging his knee at training.
Just days after playing his first league game in two years following his second knee reconstruction, Rolfe hurt the knee during drills preparing for today’s battle against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval.
The Panthers are waiting for the results of scans, but he is expected to miss the rest of the season in another frustrating blow for the Alice Springs product.
“It is very disappointing for Peter and the club,” Panthers chief executive Neill Sharpe said. “He has played over 100 league games for us and is 28, I’m sure he will be considering his future.
“Peter has been a great servant of the club and did a tremendous job to fight back from his second knee surgery and return to the league side.”
Rolfe had his first knee reconstruction in 2013 and had similar surgery two years later when he ruptured the ACL in his 100th appearance for the Panthers.
Last year, he was on the verge of returning to action when he tore his hamstring and was sidelined for six weeks, forcing him to delay his comeback until this season. However, the start to his season was delayed when he had surgery for a foot injury.
Rolfe’s injury adds to a lengthy toll for the Panthers, who have been forced to pursue a spot in the finals without classy onballer Brede Seccull and key forwards Sam Overall and Ben Haren.
They are two games behind fifth-placed Glenelg, but have a game in hand, as today’s games are the second weekend of the split round. There are three rounds remaining.
Central District will host North Adelaide in Elizabeth.
