ROOSTERS BACK CROWING

HANDS up those who thought the good times might be over for North Adelaide after being outplayed by South Adelaide at its Prospect home last week? I’m guilty.

The Roosters didn’t just bounce back, they exploded back with the incredible performance at Alberton Oval on Saturday.

So has the Neil Diamond number Sweet Caroline become the song of choice for the Roosters?

The song was belted out in the changerooms after the Roosters knocked over Port by 79 points. And it’s not the first time a win has been celebrated with Neil in full voice in the background.

Ahhhh Roosters fans, good times never seemed so good. You’d been inclined to believe they never would.

It’s doubtful if marathon runner Jess Trengove was in a singing mood at the ground though watching brother Jack play in the losing side.

FAMILY AFFAIR
IT was a family reunion for the Wilsons at The Parade on Friday night.

Brothers Anthony, Luke and Clifford all fronted for Norwood in the reserves in the win over Central District and as usual, they seemed to enjoy themselves.

Anthony is using the twos to find fitness and form after having the start to his season delayed by an injury in pre-season.

LONG LEGS

THE Redlegs have built incredible depth and watching the reserves on Friday night provides some scary thoughts for rivals.

Brad McKenzie was brilliant in defence and Wilson won’t be far away from promotion. Luke Surman has to come back at some stage and Simon Phillips is ready to return to the field.

McKenzie and Wilson will get more game time on Saturday when Norwood takes on Adelaide in a trial game at The Parade at 10.30am. The Redlegs side for the hit out will consist of mostly players from the reserves.

The Crows were keen for the game to give their AFL-listed blokes some action.

FIRING UP THE ENGINE ROOM

A WISE SANFL man with a lengthy history with the league said games are all about the midfield at SANFL level.

And it is hard to argue watching the Redlegs versus Bulldogs contest. The likes of Matthew Panos, Mitch Grigg and Josh Glenn feeding off ruckman Sam Baulderstone, they have a formidable onball brigade.

Compare that to the Bulldogs. At the end of last season they lost their best player Nick Holman to Gold Coast, Chris Jansen to North Melbourne and Glenn, among the side’s best players in the finals last year, to Willaston then the Redlegs. It’s a trio they just cannot replace.

Glenn kicked eight goals on Friday night, eight goals!

No doubt Sturt will back its midfield against the Redlegs, as long as Aidan Riley can get on the field.

EAGLES GROUNDED

TALKING about midfields, Woodville-West Torrens will be without Jared Petrenko for at least six weeks while he recovers from a knee injury.

Petrenko will have scans on his injured right knee and it is expected the news will be medial ligament damage. The immediate thoughts of the Eagles medical staff is he had escaped ACL problems.

He has already missed a lot of footy while being a TV star and was using the reserves to find some fitness and form.

The Eagles engine room will also have to wait a little longer before last year’s best and fairest winner Joe Sinor returns. He had surgery on Friday to remove a screw from his left leg, broken in a trial at Noarlunga Oval in March.

TARGET NEEDED

SOUTH Adelaide doesn’t just need a forward to stand up in attack, it needs a forward to stay on the ground.

Sam Overall can take that super mark deep in attack, but he is a spectator due to a foot injury. By the way, all those down time and still no decent haircut.

Nathan Kreuger has the height to be used in attack, but he is injured. And Tom Whittlesea faced a month out of the game after hurting his shoulder against the Eagles on Saturday.

The lack of a potent forward hurt the Panthers big time.

Just to note, the Panthers website lists Kreuger, Kreugs and Krugga as Kreuger’s nicknames. Hopefully the Panthers can be a little more creative with their attack.

ON THE BANDWAGON

MIGHT be time for James Fantasia to think about putting a deposit on a marquee for grand final night? It does not come much more impressive than the past two weeks.

OFF THE BANDWAGON

WILL the Bulldogs get a game beyond the final minor round, doubtful. Dewy is supposed to be a Dogs man, why did he take Holman?

RANKINGS

1: Norwood: Has to be on top after smashing the Bulldogs, six days after belting the Eagles.

2: North Adelaide: The Roosters bounced back from the poor effort against the Panthers to run riot at Alberton, repeat, run riot at Alberton.

3: Sturt: Trailed by a few goals at quarter-time then went bang. There would be a few eyes looking at Shane McAdam in the Double Blues’ attack.

4: West Adelaide: Followed the win at Alberton with a convincing victory over Adelaide.

5: Eagles: Played only one decent quarter and got the chocolates at Noarlunga Oval. But as the coach says, there is still plenty of work to be done.

6: South Adelaide: Wasted too many chances in the first half, then showed fight in the final quarter with just one bloke on the bench.

7: Glenelg: Impressive early, then the wheels fell off.

8: Port Adelaide, Adelaide, Central District: They can’t be split, all were very average.
