Sturt small forward Ben Hansen has avoided surgery on his damaged shoulder and he could return to action next month.

There had been fears for Hansen’s season after he hurt the shoulder in the first quarter against Woodville-West Torrens at Unley Oval on Saturday, his first league appearance since 2017.

Scans revealed a small labral tear and the club is optimistic he will be sidelined for only four weeks.

But Guy Page will be missing for at least 12 weeks, starting with the clash against Norwood at The Parade on Friday night, after he fractured his leg and damaged the ankle ligaments in the opening minutes of the win over the Eagles.

Page, who had played 125 consecutive games since making his league debut, will have surgery on Friday morning.

“It is a good result for Ben considering our initial thoughts and we are happy with that,” Double Blues football manager Chris Trapp said. “He now needs rest and rehab.

“But Guy’s injuries are worse than originally thought and he will be sidelined for between three and four months.”

The Double Blues also sent Oliver Grivell back to the reserves and promoted Adam Trenorden, Jack Penfold, Henry Voigt, Henry Carey and Josh Dodd to a 23-man squad for the game against the Redlegs.

Key forward Luke Surman has been ruled of the Redlegs’ side due to hamstring and foot issue, while Ed Smart is back in the line-up.
