Former Magpie and Panther David Baker dies at age 57

FORMER Port Adelaide and South Adelaide ruckman David Baker has died, aged 57.

FORMER Port Adelaide and South Adelaide ruckman David Baker has died, aged 57.

Baker, who was initially recruited by the Magpies from Woodville, played a total of 120 SANFL games for a return of 17 goals.

Baker played 64 games for Port Adelaide from 1982-86, then 56 for South Adelaide from 1987-90.

He remained involved in the game after his playing days and was an assistant coach of the Goodwood Saints’ 1997 Division 1 premiership in the amateurs.

He worked as a schoolteacher at Westbourne Park Primary School and is survived by wife Kathy and their children.
