Norwood onballer Mitch Grigg ready for SANFL elimination final challenge against Central District
Classy Norwood midfielder Mitch Grigg bounced back to his best form in the draw with Sturt on the weekend and the Redlegs will seek redemption in the elimination final battle against Central District.
GUN Norwood midfielder Mitch Grigg has described the mauling from Central District a little over two weeks ago as unacceptable and almost embarrassing.
And he is adamant there will be no repeat of that performance when the two sides clash in the elimination final at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
Asked if the first game in the SANFL finals series was a chance for redemption, Grigg’s response was an emphatic “definitely”.
“That performance was not acceptable by any means from our footy club,” Grigg said. “Myself and the boys in the midfield probably got pantsed against the Doggies.
“That is something we will be looking to rectify. We are quietly confident, but don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.
“We have learnt from that bad loss and we are not going to repeat that, that is for sure. We know the things we have to bring game day for us to perform.”
The hefty loss to the Bulldogs was followed by a belting from Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval. However, Grigg said the Redlegs had bounced back to their true form to have a draw with Sturt at The Parade on Saturday.
He said the effort and pressure around the contest was back to their best, only to fail to capitalise in front of goal.
Grigg had a huge influence on the contest and his efforts against the Double Blues have been recognised as The Advertiser SANFL Player of the Week.
While he claims he has endured a quiet month, Grigg has been outstanding for the Redlegs this season after returning to the club following his delisting from Adelaide.
“I’ve loved being back at The Parade, absolutely loved it,” Grigg said. “I wasn’t really enjoying my footy that much in the back half of last year. I was not getting much opportunity at AFL level and didn’t look close to be honest.
“I’m back playing with a lot of guys I won a premiership with and a lot of guys I grew up playing footy with. It’s been really enjoyable.”
Grigg was a member of the Redlegs’ side which claimed premiership glory in 2013.
He is also thriving under new coach Jarrod Cotton and his attacking mindset.
“Who does not like to attack when playing footy,” Grigg said.
