NORWOOD coach Jarrod Cotton has been rewarded for taking the club to the minor premiership with a two-year contract extension.

Cotton is in the second season of a three-year deal, but will be at the club until 2021 after the Redlegs backed the club’s future under his guidance.

The Redlegs won 13 successive games to climb to the top of the ladder and have the bye in the opening round of the finals this week as reward.

Cotton said it was satisfying to have the agreement settled on the eve of the finals series.

“It’s really exciting for me and the football club,” Cotton said. “As a coach you want to have success, but it’s more about where the club is heading and the direction we are heading in as a group.

“We have transitioned our squad over the last 12 to 18 months and I am excited about the next phase of our progression.

“I’m very humbled and can’t thank the club more for their support.”

Redlegs chief executive James Fantasia said Cotton had done a terrific job in his second year as senior coach.

“He has improved the squad list as a whole and is highly regarded by players, staff and club officials,” he said.

“We look forward to the next three years with Jarrod at the forefront of our football club.”

Sturt has been dealt a double blow with Aidan Riley and Fraser Evans ruled out of the qualifying final clash against Woodville-West Torrens at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Riley will miss the battle due to a minor hamstring issue, while Evans is sidelined for at least two weeks after hurting his ankle in the loss to Glenelg in the final round.
