Norwood midfielder Mitch Grigg is in doubt for the game against Port Adelaide

Norwood has been hit hard by injury and another big name in the midfield is in serious doubt for the battle against Port Adelaide on Sunday.

SANFL Round 9 highlights

Dual Magarey Medallist Mitch Grigg’s status for the clash against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Sunday will hinge on a training session the day before the game.

The Norwood midfielder is in serious doubt for the battle after back spasms forced him out of the contest against South Adelaide at three-quarter time at Noarlunga last weekend.

Redlegs football manager Mark Ross said Grigg “could not move” at three-quarter time and his condition was no better on Tuesday.

“He improved on Wednesday and was pretty good the next day,” Ross said. “Today (Friday) he was feeling really good so he will train tomorrow and we will see how he goes.”

The Redlegs are already without Matt Panos, Matt Nunn and Will Abbott in the engine room, while captain Jace Bode and experienced Ed Smart will miss the Port contest after being injured against the Panthers.

Zac Richards returns after missing the Noarlunga game due to a thigh injury, while defender Cam Ball and Corey Grove, who has played with Port and North Adelaide, are a chance to make their league debut for the club.

Port is tipped to have just one top up player with Ollie Wines, Peter Ladhams, Joel Garner and William Drew expected to front in the SANFL.

Woodville-West Torrens will continue its push for a top five spot when it hosts West Adelaide at Woodville Oval on Saturday.

The Eagles have won the past three games to be only one game plus percentage behind fifth-placed Sturt.

Central District faces a mammoth task when it hosts a powerful Adelaide side at Elizabeth Oval.

The Bulldogs have dropped their past five games, while the Crows have climbed to second on the ladder, just percentage below Glenelg, on the back of five wins. The Crows have not lost since round 2.
