TWO more players have joined the Glenelg Hall of Fame, the Bloods pump out more depth and the young Sturt talent attracting plenty of attention as we wrap up Round 9 of the SANFL.

TWO more players have joined the Glenelg Hall of Fame, the Bloods pump out more depth and time to recover after two interesting SANFL games on the weekend.

FAME FOR TIGERS

Two more Tiger greats were inducted into the Glenelg Hall of Fame at the Bay on Saturday night.

Kevin Abley, a tough, skilful player who was outstanding at either end of the ground, but probably best remembered as a top-shelf full back, and Allan Bartlett, a strong, hardworking player who adapted to stints in the key attacking and defensive positions in the 1990s, were announced as the latest members of the prestigious club.

There are now 47 players in the Tigers’ Hall of Fame, which was inaugurated in 2001.

Abley played 174 games and kicked 96 goals between 1954-64, was leading goalkicker in 1957 and played one state game.

Former Crow Bartlett played 201 games and kicked 92 goals between 1989-99 and also played one state game.

BLOOD FLOWING STRONGER

West Adelaide coach Gavin Colville talked about the growing depth at Richmond Oval after putting up a terrific fight against Sturt on Saturday.

The Bloods were without Jason Porplyzia and Jono Beech, while another gun Aaron Fielke pulled the pin on his career a couple of weeks back. That is a big trio not to have in the side.

But the club is building strength. John Noble is developing into a very handy player and blokes like Josh Schiller and Brett Turner have grown in stature.

No doubt Colville is sleeping a little better these days after a worrying start to his league coaching.

McADAM TO LOSE THE BLUES
The Double Blues need to get as much out of forward Shane McAdam as they can this season because it is highly unlikely he will be at the club next year.

McAdam’s Unley stint is tipped to be only the one year as AFL scouts take plenty of interest in the classy performer.

And good news for Rory Taggert fans, he got through his first league game for the season unscathed, we think.

Sturt fans probably won’t see more of this beyond this season with Shane McAdam impressing the AFL scouts. Picture Matt Turner.

PANTHERS CHASE HAT-TRICK

Here is a little bit of trivia worth noting, or not.

South Adelaide is chasing a third premiership this season after winning the Fast Footy pre-season comp and the women’s state league title at the first attempt.

I’m not sure the 54-year drought has been broken quite yet with the Panthers waiting the longest of any club between flags.

Glenelg has the next longest drought, having not won since 1986.

TRIAL NO SHOW

Norwood’s trial against Adelaide scheduled for Saturday at The Parade was called off.

It is believed the limited number of AFL-listed players in the Crows side led to the game being cancelled. It is another indication of the injury woes at West Lakes.

ON THE BANDWAGON

There were only two games on the weekend and there was nothing seen to persuade me to abandon the Redlegs. They had the bye, but that won’t stop me pushing my way further to the front.

OFF THE BANDWAGON

Nothing on the weekend has made me change my mind, Central is still in the doghouse.

RANKINGS

With only two games, there is little we can do about the rankings. If we were to rank the four teams on show on the weekend, the order would be South Adelaide, Sturt, West Adelaide and Port Adelaide. We could probably squeeze the Westies BBQ in there somewhere.
