GLENELG forward Terry Milera acknowledges there is still plenty of work before the club can seriously discuss finals.

But there is a definite upbeat atmosphere at the Bay as the Tigers edge closer to ending a six-year absence from major-round action.

The Tigers climbed back into the top five on the ladder when they conquered South Adelaide by 55 points at home on Saturday.

“The boys are up and about,” Milera said. “There is still a lot of things to do before we can start talking finals, but at this stage we are where we want to be.

“There is more work to do and we are looking forward to the challenge and embracing it. It was a very big win over South.

“(Coach) Matty Lokan spoke to us during the week about the game being a final before the finals. The boys responded well and got the big win.”

Milera had a significant influence in the triumph, nailing a career-best haul of six goals to be named The Advertiser SANFL Player of the Week. He had kicked five goals in a game a few times.

The elusive Milera, who joined the club after 30 AFL games with St Kilda, praised the work of the midfielders in providing the attack with plenty of opportunities.

“Forwards Josh Scott and Liam McBean made the contest and I was able to get on the end of a couple,” Milera said.

“My form has been not too bad, I’ve had a couple of good games and couple of bad games. I’m loving it, I’ve had a couple of years at the Bay and we are slowly building.

“To have my brother (Ian) at the club is great and he has been fantastic this year.”

Port Adelaide will be without Douglal Howard for the clash against the Tigers at Alberton Oval on Sunday after he was suspended a game for rough conduct in the loss to Central District in Elizabeth on Saturday.

Port’s Angus Monfries, Jake Neade, Jarrod Lienert and Brett Eddy were fined $200 and given a reprimand, along with Bulldogs Ryan Llewellyn, Nick Holman and David Haydon for striking following a melee on the half-time siren.
