Glenelg premiership hero Josh Scott has left the club for the River Murray

After a mixed bag 2019 with injuries aplenty, but culminating in a flag, a favorite Tiger has said farewell to his teammates and SANFL for the time being.

Glenelg premiership hero Josh Scott, after months of speculation, will play with Jervois Football Club this season.

Scott, who played 90 league games for the Bays, signed on Wednesday with the Bluds in the River Murray Football League.

The 25-year-old had a tough 2019 with injuries, including a broken wrist, hampering his season before he returned for a heroic flag with the Bays – helping end a 33-year drought for the club.

Scott said he needed time away from the pressures of league football.

“I just had to have a break from the SANFL and the injuries I had were getting me down and doing my head in a bit,” Scott said.

“I got talking with my good mate Josh Woodall who was at Jervois and I decided to have a go there.

“With everything that has gone on last year and with my mother’s place being lost at Lakes Entrance (Victoria) because of the fires I just needed some time and space.

“I have also started a new business with a mate (Line Marking SA) and that has gone crazy.

“We are doing jobs at least six days a week so it would have been hard to fit in all the commitments with Glenelg. I also plan to go and help mum when I can.

“But I have plenty to offer footywise and I will be back at SANFL level at some stage.’’

Fellow premiership star Liam McBean was a driving force behind a Go Fund Me drive, which the club is hoping to expand on in a couple of weeks at a farewell for Scott and his family at the Morphett Arms Hotel.

Glenelg football manager Paul Sandercock said Scott would be missed.

“He’s had a really tough 12 months with his injuries and surgery recently on his finger,’’ Sandercock said.

“We always knew it was on the cards (leaving),’’ Sandercock said.

“He’s played under duress and hopefully he can have a good year. I know the club is catching him soon and wishes him well.’’
