Glenelg has lost a raft of players from its grand final winning side, and now another key member of its drought-breaking premiership – defender Aaron Joseph – has left the club.

SANFL grand final: Glenelg celebrates on siren

Glenelg has lost another premiership player following Aaron Joseph’s decision to call an end to his career.

The defender, 30, told the club his motivation had slipped and he wanted “to look at doing other things” with his life.

Tigers football manager Paul Sandercock said the club had an inkling Joseph was assessing his future before Christmas when he returned to training, only to seek a longer break.

“He hinted at the end of the season he was looking at other things, such as travel,” Sandercock said.

“He has been up in Queensland helping his sister on her property and has decided he has had enough of football.

“It’s disappointing because he is close to 100 games for the club.

“At this point he is not playing, but we have left the door open and if he changes his mind we would love him back at the club.”

Joseph made 98 appearances for the Tigers after being delisted by Carlton at the end of the 2013 season.

He played 73 games for the Blues in five seasons.

The Tigers will be without six players from the side which beat Port Adelaide in the grand final.

Captain Chris Curran has left the club for a year due to work commitments in the Riverland, while Jesse White (retired), Will Gould (drafted to Sydney), Josh Scott (work) and Brad Close (drafted to Geelong) will be missing.
