Glenelg forward Josh Scott battling to overcome broken arm

Glenelg forward Josh Scott has had a nightmare season after breaking his arm. Will he have an impact on the Tigers’ bid for the flag?

SANFL Round 15 highlights

Glenelg could be forced to chase its first premiership in 33 years without Josh Scott after the gun forward was hit with another setback to his injured arm.

Scans have revealed a small fracture near the plate which was inserted after he broke his arm in the round 3 draw with South Adelaide at the Bay and there is uncertainty over his return to action this season.

Scott has not played since round 11 and is restricted to running, unable to train with footballs or do competitive work.

“Josh is a determined character and the footy club will give him every opportunity to return to the field,” Tigers football manager Paul Sandercock said.

Scott missed five games after having surgery and returned in round 9, only to hurt the arm two weeks later when heavily tackled in the final five minutes of the clash against Central District.

The strong-marking forward was hampered by swelling in the arm before the small fracture was discovered.

The Tigers are hopeful Carl Nicholson will make his first appearance since having Achilles surgery following the round 6 encounter against Woodville-West Torrens in the reserves in the penultimate round.

Scar tissue has been an issue for Nicholson and delayed his return.

Cory Gregson is back in the Tigers’ line-up to front North Adelaide at Prospect Oval on Sunday after overcoming foot soreness.

The injury is unrelated to the problems Gregson encountered at Geelong when he had four surgeries on his left foot.

The talented small forward was named on an extended interchange bench, but he trained fully on Wednesday night and pulled up well to prove he was ready to return.

The Tigers will be without Marlon Motlop for the battle against his former club because of work commitments.

Flying high at the top of the ladder, the Tigers are all but guaranteed the minor premiership and a rest in the first week of the finals with a win at Prospect Oval.

They are two games plus hefty percentage above second-placed Adelaide with three rounds remaining.

The Crows have a bye in the first week of the split round, as do Sturt and Port Adelaide, who can both mathematically finish on top.
