GLENELG will be forced to chase a finals berth without captain Andrew Bradley after he dislocated his collarbone in the loss to Port Adelaide last weekend.

Bradley had surgery to repair the damage on Monday and the club is resigned to being without its leader for the rest of the season.

It is the second successive year the hard-working skipper has seriously hurt a collarbone at Alberton Oval, having broken it last season.

“It’s very disappointing for him and us,” Tigers football manager Paul Sandercock said. “He has been pretty consistent this year and as captain of the footy club, it leaves a hole.”

The Tigers will also be without talented youngster Jonty Scharenberg for Sunday’s crucial battle against Adelaide in Bordertown after he accepted a one-match suspension with an early guilty plea for engaging in rough conduct against Port.

The Crows also have suspension issues after defender Kyle Cheney pleaded guilty to striking Norwood’s Peter Bampton in the 25-point loss to the Redlegs at The Parade on Sunday.

The importance of this clash is reflected on the premiership ladder with fifth spot up for grabs.

The Tigers are a game above the Crows and South Adelaide, which does not play its round 15 contest until next week when it takes on Port at Alberton Oval, with just four games remaining.

Sturt defender Fraser Evans has been ruled out of the confrontation against West Adelaide in Richmond tomorrow due to a hip problem.

The injury is only minor, but the Double Blues are loathe to risk such a key player and he will return to action after next week’s bye.

There are some important inclusions for the Double Blues with onballer Patrick Wilson and Byron Sumner back in the side to front the Bloods.

Wilson missed the win over Central District last week due to food poisoning while Summer had two weeks away from the club recovering from shingles. Sumner was given a medical clearance on Monday to resume training.

“Byron’s fitness is fine, he trained on Wednesday night and there are no worries,” Double Blues football manager David Oatey said.

Gun Woodville-West Torrens midfielder Jared Petrenko, Ken Farmer Medallist Michael Wundke and classy defender Paul Stewart have been named in a 22-man squad to front Norwood in Woodville tomorrow.
