Eagles midfielder Scott Lewis named SANFL player of the week

VETERAN midfielder Scott Lewis must decide whether to play on in 2019 if he wants to achieve a milestone with Woodville-West Torrens.

Norwood kicks 13 goals in 4th term

WOODVILLE-West Torrens veteran Scott Lewis faces a dilemma at the end of the season as he closes in on 200 SANFL league games.

His tally will climb to 195 if he plays in all five remaining rounds, and that will grow with finals appearances.

“I had a half decent season last year and thought I had one more year in me,” Lewis said. “But I won’t make 200 games this season.

“It is a long pre-season to try and get a couple of games.”

Lewis had the start to his season delayed by his honeymoon and he had hoped to return to the league side for the second round. But he was not promoted from the reserves until round six, costing him the chance to get the 200 this season.

Another season should not be out of the question, however, on the strength of his impressive effort in the Eagles’ victory over North Adelaide on Saturday.

Lewis amassed 36 possessions and 11 clearances to be recognised as The Advertiser/SANFL Player of the Week.

“I know I’m coming up to the end of my career so I’m just trying to keep my spot and make sure I don’t make a fool of myself,” he said.

“You don’t want to be the guy in the league side who does not play a good game because you never know if you are going to get the chop.”

There is pressure on the midfielders to stay in the league side following the return of gun do Jared Petrenko and Joe Sinor in the reserves.

“The whole midfield in the twos could be playing league at other clubs,” Lewis said.
