A fractured foot could keep Central District midfielder Travis Schiller out of action indefinitely, casting doubts over how much gametime he will miss during the 2020 SANFL season.

Central District’s star onballer Travis Schiller may need surgery to repair a fractured foot as uncertainty hangs over his 2020 season.

Schiller has been hampered by the issue since February and is wearing a moon boot to protect the injury while he waits to meet with the surgeon.

The two-times club champion and runner-up behind brother Jarrod last year despite the foot problem, Schiller is optimistic of missing only a month of action.

But he admits his absence could be indefinite.

“I played all last year with pain in the foot and struggled to get around by the end of the season,” he said.

“I’m wearing the moon boot to try and keep the foot still.

“The problem is in the ball of the foot so every time I take a step there is pressure on it.

“I just need to try and keep my weight off it.

“I might need surgery. Rest does not seem to be working because I’ve obviously done a good job stuffing it up.”

Schiller had a couple of weeks away from training after feeling pain in the foot last pre-season.

The “niggling pain” was still there, however, when the games started.

While still able to play out the games, he pulled up sore each week and was restricted to recovery between rounds.

The medical report after scans showed stress responses and he took two months off, before returning to pre-season in November.

The pain was still an issue though, prompting more scans last month when the stress fracture was discovered.

“I did not do much training through the week,” Schiller said.

“By the end of the season I was shocking.

“I’m not sure about next season, it is an uncommon sort of injury.

“I can do some weight work, swimming and cycling, but nothing which puts pressure on the foot.”
