APY Lands player Ainsley Walker will make his second appearance for the Eagles in two years when he fronts in the reserves on Saturday.
Walker, a “tallish half forward”, impressed the club when he played in the reserves last year and he earned an invite to return to the club with his outstanding attitude to the game.
He has been in Adelaide this week with the APY Lands team which will take on Maralinga in the 14th annual Don McSweeney Aboriginal Lands Cup, the curtain raiser to the AFL game between Adelaide and Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
The team has been involved in workshops with Port Adelaide, the police and army as well as cultural activities.
Walker trained with the Eagles on Wednesday and will have another run with the club on Friday night.
The APY Lands belong to the Eagles’ zone and its has become an annual project to bring talented players to Adelaide for a reserves game.
“It is great to get these players down here,” Eagles football manager Luke Powell said. “Our long-term goal is to get the players to Adelaide more frequently and have them play three or four games in the season.”
Walker will have class alongside him in the Eagles forward line with Jared Petrenko and Joe Sinor to be used in attack as well as the midfield in the reserves as they continue their comeback from injuries.
