SANFL Round 17 teams: South Adelaide still hunt for finals berth as veteran Brad Crabb announces retirement

South Adelaide needs plenty to go its way, but it is still alive in the race for a spot in the finals and a chance to extend retiring veteran Brad Crabb’s career. See all the Round 17 teams here.

DO not rule South Adelaide out of the equation for a top five spot.

The Panthers can still quality for the finals if they win their final two games against North Adelaide and Adelaide at Noarlunga Oval.

Then they must rely on other results falling their way. That means Sturt losing to Port Adelaide and Glenelg at home, or Norwood dropping their games against lowly-placed pair Central District and West Adelaide.

There is also the issue of percentage. The Panthers are 2.1 per cent below the Double Blues and less than a per cent behind the Redlegs.

While the gap to the Double Blues is significant, they will be facing the two highest scoring teams and both are in form.

The Panthers will have the services of Brad Crabb, but the veteran defender won’t be with the club next season after announcing his retirement at the end of the season.

Crabb has played 213 league games since making his debut in 2007.

Woodville-West Torrens midfielder Scott Lewis, who has made 203 league appearances, will also call it quits after the final round.

The Redlegs have regained youngster Cameron Taheny, missing from the win over Sturt because of college football duties, for the battle against the Bulldogs at The Parade on Friday night.
