Salisbury West set to face Golden Grove in Saturday’s division four amateur football grand final

A DESIRE to farewell footy with a flag alongside his brothers is bringing Scott McIntyre from Port Pirie to the Salisbury West Tigers each weekend.

Scott, 29, has been making the 210km, two-hour journey since mid-season so he could play with younger brothers Travis, 18, and DJ, 24.

They grew up kicking the footy in the backyard in Paralowie but all three had not lined up in the same team until this season.

As Salisbury West prepares for a division four grand final against Golden Grove this Saturday, Scott is hoping to bow out with a premiership to share among the family.

“It’d be my best footy moment,” says Scott, who won a cricket flag with DJ and Travis for Salisbury West in 2012.

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do and as I’ve got closer to the end of my career.

“I just wanted a kick and a catch with my brothers. It’s made the drive worth it.

“We’ll win, I don’t really care who we play against.”

Scott joined the Tigers in 1992 and won two junior flags at the club.

He left to play for Long Plains Football Club from 2006-07, only to return to Salisbury West for the following two years.

After falling out with the Tigers, Scott joined Brahma Lodge for the 2010-11 seasons.

He moved to Port Pirie for love in 2012 and played for Solomontown until June.

“It’s the 50th anniversary of the club and I tried to get a clearance for Salisbury West’s heritage game and got told no.

“I spat the chewie a bit and said ‘see you later, sign my clearance, I’ll just go home and play with my brothers.

“It’s been great.”
