Former champions Peter Carey and Greg Anderson will again get their hands on the Thomas Seymour Hill Premiership Cup again when they deliver the prized trophy to Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
The pair already have their fingerprints on the SANFL’s most sought-after reward, having claimed five premierships between them.
Carey, the legend ruckman nicknamed Super who played a record 448 games for Glenelg, was a member of the triumphant grand final teams in 1973, 1985 and 86, while Anderson, with the trademark long hair, was a premiership player with Port Adelaide in 1995-96.
The Tigers and Magpies will add another chapter to their fierce rivalry when they clash in the grand final on Sunday and Carey and Anderson have been honoured with the job of bringing the Cup to the stadium.
“It is a huge thrill and great honour,” said Anderson, who was inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame last week. “I got to run around with the trophy a couple of times and it meant a lot.
“What a great game, Port v Glenelg. The rivalry, I remember as a kid in 1977 sprinting onto the oval to get as close as I could to the great Russell Ebert after Port beat Glenelg.
“I was a crazy Port supporter as a kid and I feel crazy leading up to this game, it’s so exciting.”

The Tigers have not won a grand final since Carey captained the Tigers to glory 33 years ago. This is their first finals series since 2011 and Carey said he had been chatting with Tigers’ fans who normally book holidays in September.
“There are only 63 Glenelg premiership players and hopefully it will be 84 after Sunday,” Carey said. “I was incredibly fortunate and played in 10 grand finals and won three.
“They are special memories.”
