Norwood coach Jarrod Cotton has described three-times premiership winner Brady Dawe as the ultimate team player.
Dawe will join the illustrious 200-game club on Monday when the Redlegs face South Adelaide at Noarlunga Oval and Cotton praised the key position player’s willingness to take on any role without question.
“I could ask him to play full back against South and he will do it,” Cotton said. “He is also durable.
“It has taken him 10 years to get the 200 games, he does not miss too often and pushed through pain to play.
“He is just a fantastic person and great to coach.”
Dawe made his debut for the Redlegs in round 2, 2009, and it was ironically against Sturt. After playing under 19 football at the Double Blues, he was told he was not required and returned to his junior club Meadows.
Former Redlegs star Brett James, then coach of Kersbrook, recommended Dawe try his luck at The Parade after a game against Meadows in the Hills league.
His decision to take James’ advice has certainly been vindicated many times, no more so than in the premiership years from 2012-14.
“The 2014 flag was my favourite,” Dawe said. “It was at Adelaide Oval against Port Adelaide and to just hold on when we were underdog against an AFL side.
“It is exciting to get to 200 games. I never thought coming from Meadows I would play that many games and have three flags.”
Dawe and captain Jace Bode are the only current Redlegs who were members of all three premierships.
The Redlegs and Panthers will wear blue socks to support the FightMND campaign and SockIt2MND.
Glenelg and North Adelaide will also change their socks to raise awareness for the charity when they meet at the Bay.
Tigers onballer and dual best and fairest winner Matthew Snook will make his 100th appearance, having taken eight years to achieve the feat after making his debut in 2011.
“It has taken a while, but it is finally good to reach it,” Snook said. “It is a big honour, coming through the juniors you aspire to play a few league games.
“But to play 100 and get my name on the locker is special. I didn’t think I’d get to 100, but stuck in there.”
