The 2024 Adelaide Footy League season is drawing closer and the competition’s divisions have been set in stone ahead of the first bounce on April 13.

Each division should be set for an exciting season as clubs across the league continue to add new names and strengthen their lists.

With club line-ups finally confirmed, here are the complete ins and outs from division one through to seven.

See who your club will line up against this season.

DIVISION ONE

Clubs: Brighton, Broadview, Glenunga, Golden Grove, Payneham Norwood Union, Port District, Prince Alfred OC, Sacred Heart OC, St Peters OC, Tea Tree Gully

Promoted (in): Golden Grove, Payneham Norwood Union

Relegated (out): Goodwood, Old Ignatians

The 2023 season provided fans with one of the best division one campaigns in recent memory and 2024 should be just as good.

The division will be without Goodwood for the first time in 33 years, while Old Ignatians also went down, but the return of Payneham Norwood Union and the inclusion of rising power Golden Grove – coming off of back-to-back flags – should see the competition become even stronger.

Major names such as Scott Lycett, Matt Rose and Joey Haines at Port District should see the Magpies compete with the likes of Lewis Johnston, Jake Pitman, Josh Glenn and Cam Shenton and Golden Grove, while PAOC and Glenunga should be competitive again.

PNU has signed former Norwood captain Matt Nunn, another exciting move for season 2024, and Broadview has also recruited well with former AFL forward Jesse White rejoining the club.

The division looks set to be as competitive as ever.

DIVISION TWO

Clubs: Adelaide Uni, Athelstone, Edwardstown, Flinders Park, Goodwood, Modbury, Old Ignatians, PHOS Camden, Rostrevor OC, Salisbury North

Promoted: Flinders Park, Modbury

Relegated: Henley, North Haven

Flinders Park, led by former SANFL stars Tom, Nic and James Schwarz enter the division after a stunning division three premiership, while Modbury also makes a long-awaited return after just missing out in 2022.

Edwardstown remains strong on paper with the likes of Logan Hill, Josh Schiller and Aaron Anderson going around again.

Local power Goodwood also looks to be a top side on paper, bringing star brothers Kaine and Reed Stevens to the club along with a number of returning guns.

Mitch Grigg’s Athelstone should also be competitive again, while PHOS Camden, Salisbury North and Rostrevor OC could all do damage.

DIVISION THREE

Clubs: CBC OC, Henley, Hope Valley, Lockleys, North Haven, Pembroke OS, SMOSH West Lakes, Scotch OC, Seaton Ramblers, Unley Mercedes Jets

Promoted: CBC OC, Lockleys

Relegated: Gaza, Westminster OS

On paper, division three could be one of the most intriguing of the 2024 AdFL season.

CBC OC enters the div after its shock 2023 div four flag behind star performances by Sam and Matthew Raymond and Brett Simpson, while star key forward Ben Haren’s Lockleys side will also be a threat.

Unley also remains strong with the likes of Jake Sutcliffe, Jacob Pedler and Mitch Duval remaining at the club, while Hope Valley will always be a chance with Daniel Nobes and Paul Puopolo up front.

Henley could be the big threat in the division however, with Chris Hall, Kane Sherlock and former Power gun Matthew Broadbent all joining after the club’s shock relegation from div two.

DIVISION FOUR

Clubs: Gaza, Gepps Cross, Hectorville, Kenilworth, Kilburn, Morphettville Park, Plympton, Pooraka, Walkerville, Westminster OS

Promoted: Gepps Cross, Kilburn

Relegated: Mitcham, Portland

Gaza remains in division four at this stage despite copping a $186,000 fine for salary cap breaches just months after being relegated from division three.

With a number of departures throughout the pre-season and a deduction of six player and premiership points for 2024, the Eagles seem the most likely to be relegated.

Former Gaza star Corey Solly led Kilburn to an upset division five flag last season and the Chics should be a challenge for any side in div four this year, while Gepps Cross and star players Robbie Young and Dom Barry will also be ones to watch.

Plympton remains one of the hot favourites for the division after retaining star players Curtly Hampton and Lonnie Hampton, while Morphettville Park could go deep in finals if Alex and Chris Barns remain fit.

DIVISION FIVE

Clubs: Blackfriars OS, Colonel Light Gardens, Greenacres, Marion, Mitcham, Portland, Pulteney, Trinity OS, West Croydon, Woodville South

Promoted: Greenacres, Marion

Relegated: Eastern Park, Elizabeth

Portland has retained Jake Neade and Terry Milera after suffering relegation to div five and could do major damage in the division if it has full personnel available.

Mitcham should head into the season as a grand final favourite, with star forward Max Smyth remaining at the club.

Greenacres and Marion will also be teams to keep an eye on in the division after strong div six seasons in 223.

DIVISION SIX

Clubs: Adelaide Lutheran, Central United, Eastern Park, Elizabeth, Fitzroy, Houghton Districts, Ingle Farm, Rosewater, Salisbury, St Paul’s OS

Promoted: Houghton Districts, Ingle Farm

Relegated: Brahma Lodge, Smithfield

Ingle Farm comes into division six as the major favourite after a resounding div seven flag in 2023 behind the play of Terrel and Brandon Rigney.

Jake Martin and his Houghton Districts side could also be a contender for promotion to div five.

DIVISION SEVEN

Clubs: Brahma Lodge, Flinders Uni, Hackham, Houghton Districts, Mawson Lakes, Mitchell Park, O’Sullivan Beach Lonsdale, Para Hills

In: Brahma Lodge, Smithfield

Smithfield’s return to the Adelaide Footy League after two years on the sidelines did not go as planned last season, the club suffering relegation to the bottom division.

The Panthers will have their work cut out for them with sides like Para Hills and OSB Lonsdale looking yet again.
