NORTHERN AREAS
Jamestown-Peterborough v Orroroo
Soldier Memorial Oval, Peterborough @ 2.50pm
It will be an emotional day and the end of an era as the Peterborough Saints guernsey is worn for the last time at Soldier Memorial Oval on Saturday.
Peterborough, which itself formed in 1962 through a merger of Railways, Rovers and Towns football clubs, has been playing with Jamestown as an amalgamated side since 2003 and playing a few games a year at the former home ground.
But Saturday’s clash against old rival Orroroo will be the last as the Magpies move full-time to the schmick set up at Jamestown.
The Magpies will wear heritage Saints guernseys and are expecting a big turnout for the occasion, which will also double as a reunion for the 40th anniversary of the Saints’ last of A-grade flag in 1979 and 25th anniversary of a senior colts flag.
The Magpies will be desperate for a victory as they sit on their lonesome at the tail of the Northern Areas Association ladder without a win.
After going down in last year’s grand final, the Super Roos have also had a tough start to 2019 and go into the contest with just the one win.
SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Christies Beach v Port Noarlunga
Port Noarlunga Oval @ 2.30pm
Fierce Southern Football League rivals Christies Beach and Port Noarlunga will battle for the ‘sock trophy’ this Saturday.
The tale dates back to 1994 when ex-Port Noarlunga player Tim Boston stole ex-Christies Beach wingman Scott Boehm’s red, black and white Saints premiership sock
Boehm’s old, dirty sock is tied to a small trophy along with an old football sock of Cockledivers veteran Aaron Peterson.
Port Noarlunga has the ‘sock trophy’ in its possession after winning last year’s matches Christies Beach will be keen to regain it.
ADELAIDE FOOTY LEAGUE
DIVISION FIVE
Salisbury v Hope Valley
Salisbury Oval @ 2.30pm
It will be a huge day in more ways than one on Saturday with a quintuple-header — yes you read that right — when the Magpies host the Demons.
Salisbury will unveil its recently completed new male and female changerooms at the revamped Salisbury Oval.
The Magpies will also play five games back-to-back.
Salisbury take on Hope Valley in the three men’s grades — including a big clash against the high-flying division five Demons in the A grade — before the Magpies two women’s sides take on Angle Vale in the evening.
And, as if that wasn’t enough already, Salisbury is also celebrating the 50th anniversary of its 1969 premiership side.
Good luck getting a seat.
DIVISION ONE
Rostrevor OC v Port District
Campbelltown Memorial Oval @ 2.15
This match may not seem tantalising on first glance, until you look at recent results.
Port District is Rostrevor Old Collegian’s bogey side.
The Magpies were the only side in division one to beat dominant minor premier ROC twice last season with 19 and 15-point victories. You can tell the boys from the Port love playing the Campbelltown powerhouse.
Rostrevor will also be smarting after going down to St Peter’s Old Collegians last Saturday.
WESTERN BORDER
North Gambier v East Gambier
Vansittart Park, Mt Gambier @ 2.30pm
We are only into Round 3, but these are the form sides of the Western Border competition and the early tips for this year’s grand final.
But only one will remain undefeated after Saturday’s clash at Vansittart Park.
The Tigers come off big wins against reigning premier Millicent and South Gambier while the Bulldogs narrowly beat West Gambier in Round 1 before turning the tables on Millicent in the grand final re-match a fortnight ago.
GREAT FLINDERS
Ramblers v United Yeelanna
Cummins Oval @ 2.30pm
The Ramblers have looked impressive in the opening three rounds and are yet to taste defeat, with James Pedler imposing himself and emerging star James Richardson booting 18 goals in his first three games of senior football.
But the Eagles juggernaut continues to roll on, and after easily accounting for last year’s grand finalist Tumby Bay last weekend, continue to be the benchmark in this league.
