Here are some of the things that caught our eye in round three:

MOTLOP DEBUTS FOR KENILWORTH

When Port Adelaide’s Steven Motlop was on his way to 20 disposals in the victory over North Melbourne at Eithad Stadium on Saturday, his older brother Daniel Motlop was also having a kick.

The former Power and Kangaroos forward, who booted 208 goals from 130 AFL games, featured with Kenilworth in its division five clash against Hope Valley at St Marys.

He booted two majors to help the Kookaburras to a 16.12 (108) to 6.8 (44) win.

It was Daniel’s first game for Kenilworth.

Kookaburras delegate John Schulz said Daniel’s experience showed.

“We were really pleased for his first hit-out,” Schulz said.

“There was nothing mercurial about his goals but he was really solid and he just directs our forward line.”

Daniel joined Kenilworth this season so he could play alongside youngsters Jordan Wilson-King and David Kruse.

FALCONS FLAILING

Last season Payneham Norwood Union made the division one grand final.

Right now, Garry McIntosh’s side has a 0-3 record.

A final term fade out was cause of the latest loss – a 14.11 (95) to 12.10 (82) defeat to top-tier newcomer Athelstone at Max Amber Sportsfield.

The Falcons led by a point at three-quarter time but fell away in the last term.

This Saturday’s clash at home against 2-1 Henley looms as a must-win for PNU.

THREE YELLOW CARDS IN FIVE MINUTES

Frustrations boiled over at Kingswood Oval in division two as Unley Mercedes thrashed Golden Grove by 77 points.

The Kookaburras had three players yellow carded in about five minutes in the last quarter.

John Boxer and Michael Walters were cautioned and sent off for 10 minutes each for their part in a scuffle with Unley Mercedes’ James Khabbaz.

Golden Grove’s Connor Dodd also received a yellow card minutes later after he threw Jets defender Luke Crocker to the ground following a spoil.

The Kookaburras trio might have been frustrated after the Jets kicked 12 unanswered goals to start the match before the visitors finally got a major in the second quarter.

Unley Mercedes prevailed 18.19 (117) 5.10 (40)

Ben McConnell earnt a yellow card for Unley Mercedes during the final term.

Both teams were winless coming into the match so Golden Grove would now be firming as early relegation candidates

THREE QUARTERS WITHOUT A BULLDOGS MAJOR

Ingle Farm took three quarters to kick a goal in its C5 away clash against Lockleys.

The Bulldogs were restricted to just two points by three-quarter time before a Simon Gillett major saved them from going goalless.

Lockleys ultimately prevailed 22.20 (152) to 1.2 (8).

Billy Rowswell bagged six goals for the Demons.

FLINDERS UNI BACK ON SCOREBOARD

Flinders University took a couple of baby steps at the weekend, despite another big loss.

The division seven side shot made headlines last week after failing to score in its 283-point loss to Marion.

On Saturday, the Crabs managed 4.2 (26) – albeit to St Paul’s Old Scholars’ 31.21 (207).

Craig Williams booted three of Flinders University’s majors and Dean Schofield chipped in with the other.

Hopefully the Crabs are clawing their way back in the right direction.

RAMS CHARGE HOME

Glenunga completed a thrilling comeback over Mitcham at Price Memorial Oval to propel it to the top of the division four ladder.

The Rams trailed by 23 points going into the final term but kicked six goals to two to prevail 12.13 (85) to 13.4 (82).

Glenunga was three points down with less than two minutes remaining before Jack Harford pumped the ball inside the Rams’ attacking 50 and Sam Abell took a spectacular pack mark.

The forward then went back and cooly slotted his third goal of the day to put his side ahead.

Glenunga is new to the fourth tier this season after claiming last year’s division five flag.

It is top of the ladder with a 3-1 record, ahead of Gepps Cross and Colonel Light Gardens on percentage.

UNBEATEN SIDES SET FOR BATTLE

Undefeated division two sides PHOS Camden and St Peter’s Old Collegians go head-to-head this Saturday at Camden Oval.

They are among a handful of teams across the league without a loss four rounds into season 2018 or three for division one.

SPOC has rarely been troubled in its quartet of victories in the opening rounds, while the Phantoms had a close call last week, getting over Salisbury North by eight points to keep their run going.

Rostrevor Old Collegians is the only unbeaten side in the top tier but the reigning premier face a tough test away at Tea Tree Gully this weekend.

Westminster Old Scholars(division three), Lockleys(division five), West Croydon, Rosewater(division six) and O’Sullivan Beach/Lonsdale (division seven) are also undefeated.

Division four is the only side where every team has had at least one loss.

Glenunga, Gepps Cross and Colonel Light Gardens have 3-1 records.
