Adelaide Footy League: Wakefield Sports Clinic Division 7 Round 8 preview
SITTING on top of the Wakefield Sports Clinic division seven ladder, Mitchell Park has been roaring the loudest over the first seven rounds, imposing itself as the premiership favourite at this level.
SITTING on top of the Wakefield Sports Clinic Division 7 ladder, Mitchell Park has been roaring the loudest over the first seven rounds, imposing itself as the premiership favourite at this level.
However, the Lions are yet to face the pre-season hot pick Para Hills which returned to the Adelaide Footy League this season after a year’s absence.
That enticing encounter though comes this week when we will gain a greater understanding to either side’s true title prospects.
With both looking to rise further up the grades of the league, the Big Reds, who won the 2015 division five premiership, will be hoping to recreate that form while Mitchell Park strives to recapture the desire that resulted in it winning the division seven flag in the same year.
Several players from those successes are still around in both outfits but affectively they are new combinations heading into Saturday’s match-of-the-day at The Paddocks.
Key contributors who will influence the result of this exciting contest include the Lions’ Nathaniel Mcdonnell, Chris Bradford, Brandon Walczak and Travis Hyde along with Matthew Travis, Chris Strange, Paul Cree and Tyson Lees from Para Hills.
Prevailing in a tough clash against Tea Tree Gully last week by 22 points will hold the home side in good stead, especially considering Mitchell Park is coming off a simple gallop in an unabated 202-point walloping of Flinders University.
The Crabs should be more competitive this week against a visiting North Pines who had the weekend off.
In what should be another thrilling fixture on Saturday, fifth-placed Tea Tree Gully hosts fourth-placed St Pauls OS.
Each will want to maintain their double chance wish which makes victory more crucial for the Gullies to ensure they don’t fall two wins behind.
The Saints’ Todd Gray, Wayne Nassereddine, Keaton Milera and Rhett Thompson will be well aware that their opponents are a harder proportion to overcome away so will need to present even stronger than in their encouraging nine-point triumph over Adelaide University last week.
Adelaide Lutheran should be able to hold onto its position in the top three this week when it confronts the Blacks in the South Parklands.
It proved itself as top Dog in the battle of the Bulldogs last week, easily accounting for Central United by a generous 109 points which was probably pretty much expected as is the gap between the top and bottom sides at this level.
Scott Babolka, Chris Koenig, Chris Scholefield and Shane Hickey will also be hoping to keep some pressure on the top two sides, should they falter over the second half of the season.
Central United will welcome the bye this week.
