Adelaide Footy League: Wakefield Sports Clinic Division 7 Round 6 preview

HAS Adelaide University finally settled it’s division seven squad for a push to the finals? Seems so based on recent results.

IT OFTEN takes a few weeks for Adelaide University’s lower sides to settle into their respective competitions and that has certainly been the case here so far in the Wakefield Sports Clinic division seven competition.

With the large number of new players coming to the club from the yearly student intake, it can be a drawn-out process to assess their playing abilities while also trying to keep past groups together for another season.

Now into round six this week, it appears that the Blacks have compiled their best squad for 2017 at this level and are ready to rise up the ladder off the back of recent positive results.

No better too than last week’s comprehensive 129-point triumph over North Pines which sees them well positioned to stake their claim for a finals spot.

At home on Saturday, Adelaide University will be hoping to continue its climb up the ladder further with a similar outcome against Central United, which continues to struggle against the major contenders.

Now though Lewis Parker (seven goals against the Redbacks), Joe Waugh and Edward Dart must match the top clubs to signify that the Blacks are one of those contenders themselves.

North Pines faces an arduous task again with a trip to the South Parklands to meet an Adelaide Lutheran outfit that will be hell bent on reaffirming its title credentials after dropping its second game in three weeks.

While the Bulldogs dominated certain parts of their contest against Mitchell Park, they failed when it counted most, especially in front of goal, but one would expect them to be more direct within their own confines on Saturday.

By defeating Adelaide Lutheran last week, the Lions showed that it is the team to beat this year.

Para Hills seems to be Mitchell Park’s main challenger at this stage, as both outfits remain without a loss so far.

Mitchell Park will be unable to add to its tally, having the bye this week, which gives the Big Reds a chance to re-overtake their flag rival on the ladder if they can produce a good win over St Pauls OS.

Tea Tree Gully will be well rested for its journey to Flinders University on Saturday after having the week off which could be ominous for the home side.

The battered and beaten Crabs are in for another daunting afternoon to equal the long travelling Gullies.
