Adelaide Footy League: Wakefield Sports Clinic Division 7 Round 2 review

TEA Tree Gully is imposing itself on the competition early and its right mix of strength and speed will be difficult for most sides in the Wakefield Sports Clinic Division 7 to combat.

It was another authoritative performance from the Gullies in Round 2 with a comprehensive 88-point triumph over Central United.

They may not keep youngster Douglas Penny at this level for long following a nine-goal haul against the Bulldogs but the experience within their ranks, including Daniel Wicks, Daniel Noske and Grant Williams, will hold them in good stead throughout the season.

The ability of Adelaide Lutheran to spread its goalkicking around will be the key to its aspirations to return to Division 6 quick smart.

The Bulldogs recorded another massive victory last week, extinguishing Flinders University by 122 points with multiple goals this time coming from Finlay Borgas (six) and Ashley Goodall (four).

They ably rewarded the ball gathering of Jacob Stollznow, Tasman Hawthorne and Shane Hickey.

Like their ex-Division 6 counterparts, Mitchell Park had a strong win over North Pines.

After a slow start, three goals down at halftime, the Lions’ force was evident in their resounding 58-point victory with the likes of Jordan Dienelt, Chris Bradford, Shannon Cox, Adam Halime and Travis Hyde all instrumental in the big win as was evergreen forward Nathaniel McDonnell with his usual goalscoring contribution (seven goals).

In the closest game of week two, Para Hills survived a tough challenge from Adelaide University before running away with the points, winning by 33.

The Big Reds’ attacking combination of Paul Cree and Shane Hanson did the damage, kicking six and five goals respectively.

Daniel Barratt, Ryan Rebbeck, Jack Van Den Brink and Tyson Lees ran rampant around the ground.

St Paul’s OS got on the board with its first win of the new season.

The Saints registered a handy early percentage booster, receiving little resistance from Prince Alfred OC in a colossal 144-point victory.

Such outcomes will decide fifth spot which seems to be a fight of just a few sides in the lower half of the ladder such as St Paul’s OS, Adelaide University and maybe Flinders University.

Saints Matthew Rowson, Lucio Malatesta, Liam Davies, Rhett Thompson, Daniel Moio and co. will no doubt be aware that certain games will be more crucial than others.

Overall though, it looks like being another year of large results in Division 7 with an illuming great divide developing between the top four sides and the rest.

Hopefully the lower sides will enjoy more competitive encounters when facing each other.

However, all will enjoy a break over Easter this weekend before regrouping to really get stuck into the season.
