ADELAIDE Lutheran made a statement last week winning the top-of- the-table clash against Para Hills to jump to the head of the Wakefield Sports Clinic division seven competition.
It wasn’t so much the fact that the Bulldogs claimed a handy victory over the previous ladder leader at home but it was the emphatic manner in which they pushed aside their opponents to win by a convincing 50 points.
They certainly asserted themselves as genuine title contenders and Chris Scholefield, Ashley Goodall, Jacob Stollznow and Jordan Sheer can further confirm their premiership potential when away to Tea Tree Gully this week.
Crucial to Saturday’s encounter will be Adelaide Lutheran’s defensive ability to restrict the Gullies’ potent attacking prowess as it did in keeping the Big Reds’ usually strong forward combination to just one goal for the first half of last week’s game.
In response though, Tea Tree Gully’s C-grade coach Luke Haynes will be looking for plenty of run from his troop, especially Jared Thompson, Daniel Noske, James Palmer and Scott Kroepsch backing up from last week’s efforts to steer their side to a comfortable 37-point victory over Adelaide University.
Para Hills will regroup after having a bye this week.
The Blacks’ finals aspirations appear to be falling by the wayside as they drop two wins behind fifth-placed St Pauls OS following last week’s loss.
It didn’t stop them though from celebrating their player-coach’s fabulous 300-game milestone.
Simon Ritchie, or as he is affectionately known the Sexy Pimp, is as a true clubman who has reached legend-status around the confines of University Oval.
However, his focus will turn needing a few upsets over coming weeks to maintain any hope of Adelaide University realising its finals dream, beginning on Saturday with a tough road trip to Mitchell Park.
The Lions’ triumphed for their own 300-game stalwart Nathan Mcdonnell last week, defeating Central United by 30 points.
While also in a battle to retain fourth spot on the ladder for a possible home elimination final, Mitchell Park will not have given up on the double chance so accounting for sides like the Blacks is paramount.
Nathan Walczek, Harley Leedham, Brendan Walczak and Shaun Lindholm will again play a vital role in achieving the Lions’ goal.
Central United has the week off due to North Pines’ recent departure from the Adelaide Footy League.
It became apparent that the Redbacks could not continue in 2017 when the clearance deadline closed last week with a long list of their players seeking transfers to continue playing football this season.
It has been a sad demise for the once emerging club of the northern suburbs with its imminent future now up in the air but maybe it can resurrect itself much like Para Hills has this year.
A further late fixture amendment last week saw Flinders University and St Pauls OS not coming together in round 12 leaving both to rest before meeting in round 13 this week instead.
