ROSTREVOR Old Collegians have started the year with a bang upsetting the reigning premiers by 34 points.

The boys from Campbelltown Oval have great expectations for 2017 and they delivered in spades on Saturday, finishing finished all over PAOC in a 7.7 — 2.2 second half.

Rostrevor’s big name recruit Michael Coad was impressive on debut.

He was well supported by Jimmy Butterworth and former medallist Craig Holm.

In front of the big sticks it was Nick Hombsch and “Handsome” Hurley who did the damage with seven between them. Will Brennan, Glenelg recruit Jake Pitt and former PAC student George “Donger” Hannaford where the standouts for the Reds.

As predicted, the Goodwood Saints are highly likely to be one of the big improvers in 2017 and they led all day to get the better of Salisbury North in a low scoring affair.

Anthony Skara led the way with a best on ground performance while the name Travis Tuck appeared in the best players.

This is likely to be a regular occurrence throughout the year. For the Hawks it was former Rooster Michael Clinch who was the standout and he was well supported by Dion Lawlor.

Port Districts gave the locals out at Largs Reserve something to cheer about with a good 14-point win over promoted St. Peters.

Trent “The Heff” Heffernan and James Batty kicked three each and Lachlan Greig was named as their best. For SPOC it was Ryan “Obba” Obst judged best, while Jake Stafford chimed in with three.

PNU had a good come-from-behind win over the Adelaide Uni, getting over the line by 19 points.

It was the Falcon’s five- goals-to-one third quarter that proved the catalyst. The ultra-consistent Paynter brothers were best for Uni, while it was three new recruits who did the damage for the Falcs — “Brutus” Brunoli, Dylan Auciello and the returning Bretty Ancell.

Former Division 1R goal kicking sensation Strato Agarostas has made the jump to senior football nicely and started 2017 with five goals and very few handballs.

TTG got the chocolates at home in the local derby over Modbury by 22 points in a seesawing contest. The Gullies had all the play early but the Hawks took control in the second and third terms.

Enter “Pistol” Pete Persinos. The former Redleg jagged three sublime majors in the latter part of the third quarter to give TTG all the momentum and ran all over the top of Modbury. The Hawks brave effort was championed by Matty “Gibbo” Gibson, who kicked five, while Hollingworth-Hughes was excellent in defence.
