Adelaide Footy League: The Norwood Hotel Division 1 Round 2 preview
IT WILL be a nightmare round for the tipsters as week two of the top division of the Adelaide Footy League features five games that could go either way.
ROUND two of the Adelaide Footy League features five games that could easily go either way.
The game of the round will be at Campbelltown Oval where two of last year’s finalists, Rostrevor and Payneham Norwood Union, look like they might push deep into September again. Rostrevor had a disruptive season in 2016, parting ways with their coach mid-season, and seem to be on the rise.
Former Sturt and Gold Coast Sun Michael Coad and Jacob Gillbee, who also spent time on the Suns’ list, look to be excellent acquisitions for ROC.
They have also retained the core of their squad from last year in the form of the O’Malley boys, Charlie and William, Paul “Amazeya” Fantasia, Craig Holm, Tom Hurley, Nick Hombsch and Kieran Holland.
The Falcons on-ball rotations include star-studded group with the likes of Michael Ialeggio, Jonathan Giannini, Paul Lowe, Dylan Pippet and Matthew Nye.
Its midfield unit has only been be-enforced by Ancell, Brunoli and Donahue.
Port Districts host Salisbury North at Largs in what should also be a hard-hitting, physical contest.
Jeremy Clayton will be keen to get his club off to a 2-0 start and will be looking for big games from the “Rosebud” Nathan Rose, Josh Rosenthal, Mathew Weistra and Xavier Wagner.
Gavin Chaplin and his Hawks still have a powerful on ball unit in “Smokin” Jo Hay, Matthew Sharpe, Alex Stengle and Michael Clinch.
Modbury host SPOC in replay of last year’s division two grand final.
Nathan Grainger’s troops looked like they had the game in the bag in the third quarter against Tea Tree Gully but it wasn’t to be.
Tim Davey, Matt Fogden and Tim “Butcher” Stanton will need to be at their best to stop SPOC’s stars Sebastian Wiech, James Hargreaves and Luke Trenorden.
PAOC takes on Goodwood at Park 9.
Coach Brett Backwell will be looking to gel his new squad with as many as eight new players from last year’s premiership team.
Former Glenelg players Jake Pitt and Hayden Jolly are stars whilst Adam Perryman is always consistent.
The Saints players to watch include Lou Whitelock and Tom and Jack Carter.
Adelaide University hosts the Gullies at University Oval.
The Paynter brothers are ultra-consistent whilst the acquisition of Olympic volleyballer Casey “Choppers” Grice will certainly help.
The Gullies on ballers led by the McKay brothers, Alex and Zac, feed the likes of Trent Melville and Ryan Spittle and can prove unstoppable on their day.
