A TURBULENT time off the field appears to have galvanised the playing group at Salisbury North as it upset Goodwood by six points at home.
Michael Clinch and Ben Wiles were the standouts for the home team.
This week they face Port District, which had a 27-point win over St Peters on the back of Luke
McInerney’s best game of the year.
It will be very interesting to see if the Hawks can sustain their lift in intensity and follow up with a consecutive win over a top five team.
I’m leaning towards Port Districts in what promises be a close, hard-fought, bruising contest.
St Peter’s Old Collegians host Modbury with both teams coming off of honourable losses to top five teams.
Sam Roberts was the standout for SPOC in its loss.
Matt Fogden continued his stellar year as he was the Hawks best in their 30 point loss to the Gullies.
The division two grand final rematch is sure to have plenty of spice and I think the Hawks will continue to have the wood over the Saints.
Goodwood’s six-point loss was through no fault of full forward Eric Kells, who kicked five goals in a best-on-ground display for the Saints.
The going gets no easier this week as they face Prince Alfred Old Collegians coming off a five-goal loss to the ROC.
Best for the Reds was Lachlan McNamara whilst Karl Siebels had a great output with four goals. Third spot is up for grabs in this game and I think Brett Backwell’s unit is travelling a little better at this point of the season and should get the chocolates.
PNU had a heartbreaking three-point loss.
This was their second three-point loss of the year despite the best efforts of speedy midfielder Brett Ancell.
They now face top side Rostrevor.
Earlier this year they led ROC late in the game to fall agonisingly short and it’s hard to see how they will overcome a team with so many players in form.
Normally it’s the midfield that gets the job done but it was Heath Commane who kicked six against PAOC who did most of the damage.
ROC should win.
The Gullies had a 30-point win over Modbury with Matthew Hallandal named best whilst Trent Melville kicked eight.
They host Uni.
