WOODVILLE South has upstaged previously undefeated Lockleys, to record a buoyant upset 23-point triumph at Lockleys Oval.

An inaccurate Lockleys side squandered many opportunities in front of goal, whilst in contrast Woodville South was more efficient in their forward 50m arc.

The victory has kick started the Cats campaign and have strung consecutive victories to climb to sixth placed, one game outside the top five.

Glenunga remains the only undefeated side in division five, following Lockleys’ slip up at home. The Rams came from behind against a determined Pooraka to record a sound, 31-point victory. Trailing by as much as 20 points mid-way through the third term, a major upset was on the cards, however, a nine goal blitz saw the deficit evaporate in the blink of an eye as Glenunga’s superior fitness and skills came to the fore.

Gun forward Michael McMahon continued his outstanding form with another haul of five goals.

Blackfriars OS has bragging rights over fierce intercollegiater rival, Christian Brothers College following its gritty eight-point win in a low scoring affair.

Both sides executed their defensive presses brilliantly, not allowing the opposition to score freely and closing down space, however, it did make for ugly football.

Travis Hillman was the beneficiary of the Hounds ability to work around the Dolphins’ press, kicking five goals in a match winning performance.

After being smashed from pillar to post against Glenunga, Rosewater showed resilience and fight to bounce back and outlast Greenacres by 20 points at Edward Smith Reserve.

Rosewater’s performance was in stark contrast to its game seven days prior, as the Dogs’ ball movement, efficiency and execution particularly in their forward 50 was a vast improvement. Daniel Reardon, Adam Pepe, Greg Scott (4goals) and Sam Pemble stood up, whilst Peter Smith kicked a bag of seven in a losing side.

Hope Valley resigned Kenilworth to bottom of the ladder, after a narrow 17-point win at home. Lee Duggan continued his brilliant 2017 form, snaring four goals in a best on ground performance, whilst Daniel Tanczos, Jayke Hellmanns and Jake Miles also impressed.

A positive to take out of the loss for Kenilworth, was former Brighton Bomber, Jack Degenhardt who kicked five goals on debut.
