IT HAS been a long wait but Broadview finally got to sing the club song for the first time this season following an exuberant seven-point victory over Pembroke OS last week.

Importantly though, it will have created some confidence around the club that avoiding relegation is now a distinct possibility.

However, to do so, Jack Fergus, Sean Baker, Brodie Pearce, Zach Slade and their fellow Tiger cubs must continue roaring ahead with some crucial fixtures to come.

Celebrating last week’s triumph, while justified, cannot extend too long with attention needing to turn quickly to this week’s vital meeting with seventh-placed Old Ignatians, followed by ninth-placed Scotch OC to decide Broadview’s likelihood of staying up in division two next year.

Coach Sean Jackson will have also made his troops aware of the importance of giving their home fans something to cheer about.

Old Iggies may be vulnerable too after having their finals aspirations dented last week by their loss to Sacred Heart OC, leaving them three wins outside the top five.

Pembroke OS remains at Haslam Oval on Saturday with Gaza its next opponent after the Eagles

practically secured their spot in the finals by beating Athelstone in another telling seven-point result last week.

There is now two wins separating fifth and sixth-placed sides so the top five seems settled but Gaza would be eyeing an even higher rung on the ladder, such as a double chance opportunity.

Therefore Ben Beioley, Daniel, Lee, Ben Macreadie and Brayden Lauder don’t have time to rest on their laurels.

Unley Mercedes Jets’ finals hopes are fading as they lose touch with the top five and another loss could end them altogether.

They face a difficult encounter to stay alive with third-placed Sacred Heart OC popping into Kingswood Oval on Saturday.

SHOC though was particularly imposing from the outset last week, extinguishing Old Ignatians’ flame early by kicking nine straight goals to one in the first quarter.

Sam Potts, Tristan Carcuro, Nick Jordan and Sean Keen will be looking to similarly blow out the Jets’finals prospects this week.

The momentum swayed throughout in the Raggies’ contest with Gaza last week but the visitors failed to be on the favourable side at the final siren.

Athelstone returns home to Max Amber Sportsfield on Saturday for another challenging match up against second side PHOS Camden.

The Phantoms kept Scotch OC at bay last week, accounting for the ex-college boys by a competent 40 points.

Harry Cumming, Orry Cross, Mark Ruwoldt and Sam Inglis will be out to further strengthen PHOS Camden’s ladder position.

Scotch OC awaits the well drilled ladder leader Henley after the Sharks’ Jeremy Johncock, Ben Currie, Corey Gray and Mitchell Goldner bounced back from their first loss of the season the previous week with a simple 93-point drubbing of the Jets.
