Golden Grove has recovered from a slow start to the season to sit fourth at the halfway mark of the division three season
Golden Grove has recovered from a slow start to the season to sit fourth at the halfway mark of the division three season.
Last Saturday the Kookaburras enjoyed the trip back home from Plympton when they won by 23 points with their 15.3 a key to the win.
The fourth-placed Grove saw strong games from Todd Sheppard, Ben Bamford and Joel Horskins (six goals).
Plympton held fifth place despite the loss with Tim Dunkley, Luke Percy and Jack Donkersley leading the way.
Flinders Park and Seaton Ramblers, third and second on the ladder respectively, showed there was little between them at Flinders Park.
In a dour contest where both sides kicked less than 10 goals it was the home side hanging on by nine points. Kerren Hall, James Schwarz and Jake Guidera were strong for the Reds, while Darren Tremaine, Michael Parker and Shane Harris were among the best for the Rams.
It was heartache again for SMOSH West Lakes which did everything but win against Mitcham in their bottom-of-the-table battle at Mitcham.
The Lions led by 19 points at the last break but went under by three points, desperately trying to win their first match of the season. Alex Hughes, Morgan Cocks (three goals) and Lyndon Parham were among the best for SMOSH.
Westminster Old Scholars and Brighton were locked in a tight first half battle at Glandore before the Bombers turned up the afterburners to win by 67 points. Ben Tate (six goals), James Wray and Will Rivers were among the leading lights for the Bombers, while Cody Boylan, Scott Blesing and Todd Marsh had good moments for the Dragons.
Walkerville completed its first-round commitments with a strong 38-point away against Portland last Saturday. The Cats, seventh with four wins, saw good games from Luke Westbury, Jason Dean (seven goals) and Adam Law. Portland’s best included Corey Evans, Dale Laslett and Jordan Weetra.
All sides have a bye this week for the June long weekend.
