Adelaide Footy League: Balfours Div 6 Round 10 preview

WINLESS Houghton has a golden opportunity to get on the board as it hosts ninth-placed Mawson Lakes in the Adelaide Footy League’s Balfours Division 6.

I am tipping an upset in the battle of the cellar dwellers.

The Raiders will be singing loud and proud on Saturday night.

I believe the second half of the year will bear a lot more fruit.

If ruckman Cam Schutz and Skipper Nathan Hall can fire, new glamour forward Dave “Plugger” Keetch will kick enough to get the job done.

Mawson Lakes must be thankful it has the likes of Nathan Delbridge, Samuel Phillips and the Ung brothers or results could have got a lot uglier. Raiders, just, in this one.

Undefeated Pulteney hosts Fitzroy coming off six wins on the trot.

Pulteney’s stars have been hard to stop, none more so than Dalton Tucker and Josh Giddings.

For Fitzroy, drastic improvement has come off the back of performances by Lukey Schicluna, Chad Bourke and the attacking avenue of Anton Gerardis (31 goals for the season).

I can’t see Pulteney losing a game this year but the Lions will be keen to prove me wrong.

Ingle Farm hosts Brahma Lodge in a game that is likely to see the winner sit in third spot.

Ingle Farm got the chocolates in a sometimes spiteful clash in Round 1 and this is very much a season-defining game.

Both teams are littered with stars. For the Dogs it’s ruckman Steve Gannell, Nick Lynch and the man with his own cheer squad, Grae Grant.

For the Tiges hopes revolve around the likes of Dean Steele, Darren Huitema and leading goalkicker Darrell Mcintyre, if he returns from injury.

In a battle of the seventh and eighth-placed teams, West Croydon will be trying to snap a losing streak when it faces Salisbury West, which is gunning for its third consecutive win.

West Croydon will be looking to recapture that early season form and look to Luke and Darren Francis, Luke Walsh and Trent Pursche to provide support to Luke Woodcock, who is having a career-best year.

The Tigers have now put to bed the threat of relegation and will have designs on an unlikely finals appearance. Derek Newchurch and Jake Williams are two players that will be leading that charge. Hawks at home for mine.

Trinity hosts Elizabeth in a must win game for the Eagles as the pack is hunting the former ladder leaders. Trinity players to have found form include Jordan Smith and Rocco Spagnolo. Eagles stand outs include Austin Reeves and Brayden Abbott. Impossible to tip this game. Eagles … maybe
