Adelaide Football League: Aldi Under 18 Round 3 preview
Absorbing clash a pointer of things to come in the Adelaide Football League under 18 competition.
FLINDERS Park and Broadview produced an absorbing clash in their Aldi Under 18 Red clash last Sunday at Flinders Park, with the Reds sneaking home by two points.
In a nailbiting finish the second-placed Flinders Park won 7.11 (53) to 7.9 (51) with Matthew McDonald, Connor McLeod and Simon Yiannicou leading the charge.
Jason Stott led his side’s scorers with two goals. For the Tigers, Nicholas Jacka, Harry Baker (two goals) and Hamish Ralph were among the best.
Golden Grove’s good third quarter proved the key to its first win of the season, beating Athelstone at Harpers Field.
The Kookaburras won 10.10 (70) to 8.13 (61) after Athelstone led 3.7 to 2.3 at quarter-time.
Grove hit back to grab a 6.6 to 5.9 lead at half-time and extended that at the last change to lead 9.10 to 6.11. Thomas Pengilly, Lachlan Zschorn and Dylan Barge were strong for the Kookaburras while Chad Wood, Tiel Ndolimana (three goals) and Brodie Dickeson were best for the Raggies.
Goodwood Saints beat Henley by three points at Henley, despite the Saints’ poor conversion in attack. The Saints won 6.15 (51) to 7.6 (48) with Mitchell Read, Zac Sanderson and Liam Brown playing well for the Saints. Best for the Sharks included Kane Fry, Francesco-Luke Varricchio and Jack Pillion. Jackson Smith kicked three goals.
A brilliant game from Kobe Broome highlighted Port District’s home win against Tea Tree Gully. Broome kicked five goals as the Magpies won 12.17 (89) to 7.8 (50).
Port led 8.6 to 5.1 at half-time and 9.9 to 7.6 at the last change before clearing away. Daniel Thompson and Brodan Hawkins also played well for the Magpies, while Jeremy Crabb-Shaw kicked two goals. Jak Kairl-Prosser led the Gullies’ best with good support from Jaidyn Martin and Tyler Bennett. Brodie Latham kicked there goals.

EAGLES SOAR
GAZA made short work of Fitzroy in their Aldi Under 18 Yellow clash at Klemzig Oval last Sunday.
The Eagles moved to third on the ladder after its percentage-booster, winning 20.10 (130) to 1.1 (7). Nicholas Bailey was the star for the Eagles with nine goals, while Tios Vassilopoulos and Bailey Wake (four goals) led a long list of good players.
Best for the Lions were Harrison Tucker, Managi Mutanda and Lachlan Matters.
Hope Valley was too solid for Modbury in its victory at Modbury. The Demons, second, proved too strong to win 12.11 (83) to 6.7 (43) with consistent games from Adam Nikelis, Declan Walsh (three goals) and Jason Coventry. Kane Harvey kicked three goals.
The Hawks were best served by Jack Sutton, Zac Bowman and Samuel Johns.
Salisbury West produced an outstanding game to beat Hectorville at Salisbury West, 16.16 (112) to 2.4 (16). The Tigers, on top after two rounds, led 3.5 to 1.1, 7.10 to 1.2 and 12.13 to 1.4 at the changes before winning well.
Llewellyn Milera, Marques Graham and Zac Graham led the way, while Terrel Rigney kicked three goals. Best for Hectorville were Angus Bressington, Seth Powell and Cooper Richards.
Portland was too strong for Gepps Cross at Port Reserve, winning 12.14 (86) to 6.4 (40). Dylan Gaylard led the way for the Thunder with good games from Martin Frederick (two goals) and Jayden Harvey (five goals).
The Rams saw solid efforts from Ryan Coccetti, Thomas Robinson and Thomas Neumann.

FULL STEAM AHEAD
Sacred Heart Old Collegians had all the answers as it ran over the top of Kenilworth in their Aldi Under 18 Blue match last Sunday at Sacred Heart Middle School.
SHOC won 21.22 (148) to 4.6 (30) with Wilson Otto (three goals), Liam Wisdom and Teancum Varcoe playing well. Logan Kelly and Sam Whelan kicked three goals each for SHOC.
Best for Kenilworth included Jack Cousins, Harry Treloar and Fergus Newman-Milne.
Flinders Park had too much firepower for Morphettville Park in their match at Flinders Park. The young Reds won 17.12 (114) to 4.6 (30) to sit fourth and unbeaten after two rounds.
Rhys Williams, Mitchell Tanner and Lachlan Swan (three goals) were among the best for the Reds. Izaak Tregenza kicked four goals, while Thomas Wegner backed up with three goals.
Best for the Roos were Josh Brinn, Cameron Eaton and Chris Quinsey. Thomas Raptis kicked three of his side’s four goals.
Brighton was far too strong for Rosewater at Brighton, the Bombers charging home to win 21.23 (149) to 1.3 (9).
Brighton led 11.1 to 1.2 at half-time and continued the pressure after the break.
Harrison Boyle was outstanding for the Bombers with good games from Danny Juckers and Thomas Yates (five goals). The team had 12 goalkickers.
Best for the Bulldogs were Matthew Wanganeen, Loky Glenn-Fawcett and Brock Sinapius. Blake Pawluk kicked his side’s only goal in the first quarter.
PHOS Camden beat Edwardstown at Camden Oval, 12.8 (80) to 4.7 (31) after leading 3.6 to 3.4 at half-time.
The unbeaten Phantoms were best served by Brian Cheung, Declan Grant and Solomon Brown. Sam McCabe kicked four goals for PHOS. Ryan Phillips and Tom McInerney kicked two goals each for the Towns.
