FLINDERS Park and Golden Grove will have a taste of some early major-round action when they meet at Flinders Park in their Bank SA Division Three clash on Saturday.
The prize for the winner could be a qualifying final berth and for Golden Grove it may lead to a home final from second place.
Last week Flinders Park hurt its hopes of a home final when it lost to Walkerville by 48 points after leading by seven points at half time but kicking just 2.1 in the second half.
Mitchell Harvey, James Schwarz and Mitchell Smart were the leaders for the Reds.
Golden Grove again turned on the afterburners to crush Mitcham by 85 points at home with 43 scoring shots to 18. Joshua Ingram, Oliver Graham and Ben Bamford (two goals) were among the best.
Sam Gunning kicked four goals.
From a form viewpoint it is hard to ignore Golden Grove’s winning run and that could continue by 18-34 points.
Plympton and Walkerville face a must-win game at Plympton to keep alive hopes of grabbing fifth place for the finals.
The Bulldogs were crunched by Brighton last week by 108 points, kicking seven of their eight goals in the second quarter.
Lonnie Hampton, Kieren Nelson and Jasper Barritt led the way for Plympton.
Walkerville is playing with plenty of spirit and last week’s 48-point win against Flinders Park was among its best for the season.
Sean Kuertschner (three goals), Tom Sinclair and Hugo Wallace (five goals) played strongly.
The home ground could just swing this game Plympton’s way by 12-26 points.
Portland hosts Brighton with both sides taking winning form in to the game. Portland returned a solid game by beating Westminster OS by 40 points with Dale Laslett, Joshua Perkins and Simon Brook among the mainstays of the side.
Brighton was in a no-nonsense mood last week to crush Plympton by 108 points at home with an 8.6 to 0.2 first quarter setting the tone for the day.
Will Rivers, James Wray and Scott Hunt (three goals) set the Bombers alight, while Jack Juniper and Sam Kennedy kicked four goals each.
Brighton’s class should hold sway again by 40-58 points.
Mitcham hosts Seaton Ramblers in a game where there is little in it for the Hawks but plenty for the Rams.
Mitcham was no match for Golden Grove last week with Adam Vonow (two goals), Brett Aitken and Charles Schultz battling well.
The Rams were far too strong for SMOSH West Lakes to win by 65 points and hold third place on the ladder.
Scott Priestley, Luke Walsh, Shane Harris and Brett Harland (12 goals) led the charge.
Westminster Old Scholars hosts SMOSH West Lakes in a must-win game for the Dragons if they are to stay in touch with the top five.
Last week the Dragons were no match for Portland, falling by 40 points.
Rhys French (three goals), Cody Boylan and Frazer Goodes (two goals) played well.
The Lions did not have the depth to match Seaton Ramblers, losing by 65 points with Keaton Thomas, Matthew Gates and Bradley Moore battling well.
The Dragons should not drop this game and can salute by 38-54 points.
