AFL trick shots competition: Video entry sets a high standard

Three C Grade footballers from Broadview have set a high standard with their entry to The Advertiser’s AFL trick shot competition. Winners earn the right for a kick-off with Power livewire Jarman Impey.

Brandon Hancock's entry into The Advertiser's amateur Aussie rules trick shot competition.

IF you think pulling a rabbit out of a hat is difficult try dobbing a footy about 50 metres into a wheelie bin without hitting the sides.

Brandon Hancock, Bryce Linford, both 21, and Harrison Veitch, 18, are university students who obviously have too much time on their hands.

The Broadview Football Club C-graders have entered a video of their most amazing kicks — some form around corners, off cliff tops, over a huge net at Alberton Oval or from the grandstand at Kensington Oval — in the Advertiser’s amateur footy trickshots competition.

Brandon said the “Spimoni Productions’’ team don’t take footy too seriously but they obviously have kicking skills, and patience, that is way above the average.

The video was inspired by similar basketball trick shots and compiled over several years, although some were nailed just a few weeks ago.

“We saw the post on (Advertiser Sport’s) Facebook and we’re all massive Port fans so we thought we’d have a go,’’ he said. “It’s the best of the best kind of stuff and we put it together over time.’’

The boys’ obvious star-quality kicking ability notwithstanding, Brandon admitted things don’t always go to plan.

“Based on the celebration you can probably tell that,’’ he joked. “We did one off the cliffs at Port Hughes about two-and-a-half weeks ago and it was so cold, raining and windy.

“Some of them are genuinely on the first or second go, the craziest one, at Alberton, was on the third go, I kicked that one.

“Sometimes you get lucky but if can be very frustrating when you hit the rim of the bin or it goes in and bounces right out; that’s happened a few times.

“We’ve only failed to get it once, the cliff shot, but we went back the next day and got it within 10 minutes.’’

Brandon said they usually have 20 shots each and then change over so it’s not one person stealing the glory. Constant practise has honed their accuracy.

If you think you can challenge Brandon and his mates, send us your video of Aussie rules trick shots.

Entries need to be 60 seconds or less and sent to the Advertiser Sport’s Facebook inbox or to advertiserpics@news.com.au.

A list of finalists will be posted on advertiser.com.au for the public to vote on and determine the title of SA’s amateur trick shot kings. Winners will have a chance to test their skills against Port Adelaide livewire Jarman Impey.
