There might not be much footy ahead but there’s plenty to look back on. With the help of Champion Data, The Phantom takes a look at the best KFC SuperCoach performances – under the current scoring system – from every one of the AFL’s Round 2 fixtures.

Collingwood v Richmond

Travis Cloke - 197 points

Round 4, 2013

On Saturday, April 20, 2013, Richmond led Collingwood – a side it had not beaten since 2007 at the time – by three points at halftime. Enter Travis Cloke.

The power forward booted four third-quarter goals – including a 50-metre bomb from the boundary – in a performance which made Tiger Alex Rance look helpless.

On the back of Cloke’s dominance, the Magpies piled on 8.4 to Richmond’s 2.1 to take a 36-point lead into the final change.

“I thought he was huge,” coach Nathan Buckley said of his star, who finished with six contested marks and 15 score involvements, post-match.

Sydney v Essendon

Jude Bolton (Syd) – 197 points

Round 2, 2011

A week after opening its account with a draw against the Demons, Sydney was locked in a tight contest with Essendon at ANZ Stadium.

The sides traded behinds late in the final term, but it was Jude Bolton who broke the deadlock at the 27-minute mark, earning a free-kick inside-50 and putting the Swans four points in front.

It was his third major for the afternoon and it came at a critical time, resulting in a big SuperCoach-point spike after final scaling.

But the star Swan enjoyed a reasonable day out prior to the last quarter, too, finishing the day with 25 disposals, 17 contested possessions, 11 clearances and nine tackles in a dominant midfield performance.

Melbourne v GWS

Adam Treloar (GWS) – 177 points

Round 3, 2014

Adam Treloar was a star long before he arrived at the Magpies.

In just his third season, the explosive midfielder averaged 107 SuperCoach points per game at the Giants.

And in Round 3 of that season, Treloar was prolific, tallying 33 disposals, 21 contested possessions, 14 tackles and 11 clearances in the 32-point win over the Demons – the expansion club’s fifth-ever victory.

Carlton v Western Bulldogs

Josh Dunkley (WB) – 176 points

Round 13, 2019

Remember when Luke Beveridge persisted with Josh Dunkley as a forward for the first six rounds of 2019? Nah, me neither.

Just six rounds later, Dunkley was the best player on the ground against the Blues, recording a career-high 41 disposals, 17 contested possessions, 10 score involvements and 10 tackles.

Brisbane v North Melbourne

Brent Harvey (NM) – 180 points

Round 9, 2014

In his 370th AFL game, Harvey was at his brilliant best in North Melbourne’s 87-point demolition of the Lions.

In a performance which earned the VFL/AFL games record-holder three Brownlow Medal votes, Harvey tallied 39 disposals, 13 score involvements, six inside 50s and two goals.

Port Adelaide v Adelaide

Chad Cornes - 175 points

Football Park, Round 3, 2008

With the Crows losing four players to big hits from the Power, it was one of the most-brutal Showdowns in history.

And, as often was the case, Chad Cornes was in the thick of it for Port Adelaide.

His performance with the ball, however, was just as influential.

Crow Bernie Vince was judged best afield in his 12th senior game as Adelaide won by six points but Cornes, playing his 188th career game, was everywhere, finishing with 34 disposals, 14 contested possessions, 13 marks and two goals.

Geelong v Gold Coast

Patrick Dangerfield (Geel) – 187 points

Round 23, 2018

In the final minor-round game of 2018, the superstar midfielder beat up on the hapless Suns, delighting SuperCoaches in grand final week.

Dangerfield booted four goals and recorded five score assists, among a game-high 15 score involvements.

St Kilda v West Coast

Brendon Goddard (StK) – 187 points

Round 3, 2009

Brendon Goddard was at the peak of his SuperCoach powers between 2009 and 2010.

The 334-game utility scored 120 points or more in 27 of his 42 home-and-away matches during this time, passing the 140-point mark on 10 occasions.

And against the Eagles in Round 3, 2009 came one of these.

A week after being held by Crow Bernie Vince, Goddard dominated in a vintage performance which highlighted his influence in any position on the ground.

Fremantle v Hawthorn

Luke Hodge (Haw) – 165 points

Round 15, 2015

Speaking of having an influence all over the ground, there weren’t many better at doing it than Luke Hodge.

In the clash with the Dockers down in Launceston, Hodge went head-to-head with Nat Fyfe in the midfield to the start the day, before drifting forward and out-marking the 2015 Brownlow Medallist in the goalsquare.

The premiership captain finished three majors to go with 31 disposals and seven tackles.
