Karl Amon has turned his back on the chance to return to Victoria and re-signed with Port Adelaide.

The 24-year-old wingman penned a three-year deal on Wednesday, ending speculation he might move to a Melbourne-based club.

Amon asked for a trade home last year but nothing eventuated and he went on to have a career-best season, averaging 19.7 disposals, 3.7 marks and 3.1 tackles per game.

In re-signing with the Power, the Sandringham product said he had never been more settled in Adelaide.

“There was some interest back home but I wanted to make the best decision for my footballing future and I feel like I’ve done that,” said Amon, who joined Port via pick 68 at the 2013 national draft.

“After the season I went home and had a think about what I wanted to do and for me it was a decision to re-sign with Port Adelaide.

“The club has shown a lot of faith in me over the years and I knew it was the right fit for me going forward.”

Amon has played 59 games since making his debut in round seven, 2015, including a career-high 17 this year.

He believed Port, which finished 10th with an 11-11 record, was on the right path.

“We have shown we can beat the best but we obviously need to be more consistent, and the more we play together the better we’ll be,” he said.

Port football manager Chris Davies said Amon had become an important member of the club’s midfield this season.

“His ability to get up and down the ground and to hit targets and the scoreboard showed through in 2019 and we believe he has more improvement to come,” Davies said.

“He is a great person to have within our playing group and we couldn’t be more pleased to have him at the club for at least another three years.”
