Former Adelaide Crow Nick Gill to line up for Adelaide University in SA Amateur Football League

FORMER Adelaide Crow turned radio personality Nick Gill has advice for prospective sledgers ahead of his first season in the SA Amateur Football League.
“I don’t mind a sledge,” Gill says.
“I’d just say that anyone thinking of ripping into me, have a go and come up with something new.”
Gill, a Triple M breakfast co-host, has signed with division one club Adelaide University, having returned to SA after a few years playing and working interstate.
The 31-year-old forward — a veteran of 100 games for North Adelaide and 17 for the Crows — says he was a sledging target while playing in Cairns and Hobart but mostly heard tired, recycled jibes.
“Like ‘tell us a joke funny radio man’ or ‘you’ve got a face for radio’.
“You’ve always got a comeback — ‘thanks for listening, I appreciate it’.
“And there’s plenty of AFL sledges as well, such as ‘no wonder they got rid of you’ or ‘you old AFL hack, you’re a washed-up piece of crap’.
“This time I’d be challenging people to at least come up with something original.”
Victorian-born Gill, who last lined up for the Roosters in 2011, joined the Blacks to play with friends, including former Crows and North Adelaide teammate Andrew McIntyre.
Winning another premiership is one of Gill’s aims — he won his first with Cairns Saints at age 30 — but he says enjoying his footy is his number one priority.
“I’ve had to realign my priorities from football to work and I think not only do the Blacks provide a great atmosphere but they have a lot of good guys down there.
“They still want to win but they want to do it while having fun.
“I have a minor niggle from social volleyball last year but other than that I should be right to go.”
