Former Adelaide Crow Michael Doughty wins Southern Football League flag with Reynella
MICHAEL Doughty has played in AFL preliminary finals and won Showdowns but the defender regards the SFL premiership as one of his career highlights.
MICHAEL Doughty has played in AFL preliminary finals, won Showdowns and claimed Crows' best team man awards.
But the 34-year-old defender regards taking out an A-grade premiership with his boyhood club Reynella as one of the highlights of his football journey.
Doughty won the first senior flag of his career - and the first at any level since winning an under-17 grand final with Reynella in 1996 - in Saturday's Southern Football League grand final against Morphettville Park.
"To win a senior flag at the club you grew up at is special to me, special to my family who still live in Reynella and it's a great feeling," Doughty said.
"This will sit very high up there with my greatest achievements.
"I know how much it means to my local community and everyone's said it's one of these feelings you'll never forget.
"I'm so proud of the boys and happy to be a part of it."
Doughty rejoined the Wineflies after retiring from the Crows at the end of last season, bringing his footy career full circle.
He grew up around the corner from Reynella Oval and went on to play in four junior premierships with the Wineflies.
Doughty said he was leaning towards playing on with the club next season.
