Lance Franklin has come clean on leaked footage that sent rumours racing this week.

The footy icon has been at the centre of an ambush advertising campaign and the truth behind the footage has now emerged.

The Sydney Swans legend is the face of Hahn’s cheeky new marketing campaign in a rare public appearance following his snap retirement during the 2023 AFL season.

It is the second major national advertising Franklin has featured in this year after he also popped up in Kia’s recent viral advertising campaign.

Franklin is still yet to decide what his future looks like and he has not ruled out a return to work in the AFL industry.

Buddy Franklin leaked footage gets tongues wagging

Rumours about Franklin started swirling last month when behind the scenes footage of the 37-year-old presenting a cooking show was leaked on Reddit.

The footage showed Franklin looking down the camera as he played with some dough inside a TV kitchen studio.

“So what we’re going to do guys, we’re going to round it out,” he says before breaking out in laughter while commentating his own baking skills in the leaked video.

“I like to make it look as close as possible to a football. That does take time. You need to do it with care. So from there we want to put it on the tray.”

He clearly has more than enough time on his hands, despite he and wife Jesinta Franklin juggling two children, Rocky and Tallula.

The family has moved to the Gold Coast this year.

Franklin on Thursday spoke to reporters about the Hahn Ultra Zero Carb beer ad.

“It’s been epic to lace up the boots again for this partnership with Hahn,” he said,

“While kicking footies has always come naturally to me, kicking carbs can be a little trickier which is why it’s so good that the experts at Hahn have managed to create a delicious beer that not only tastes great but has zero carbs - how good?”

The new product has less than 0.5 grams of carbohydrates per bottle serve.

Franklin now describes himself as a “stay-at-home-dad” and doesn’t appear to be in any hurry to move into the next chapter of his life.

Franklin in March was dragged into headlines when a report claimed he and the Swans were ready to part ways when he hung up his boots.

Football reporter Tom Morris said at the time: “The Swans would never say this publicly because Buddy was so good for them for so long, but make no mistake, the Swans had had enough of Buddy last year,” Morris said.

“They were ready to move on from Buddy last year and the fact that he retired without a press conference makes me think he was done with the Swans as well. It was time to part ways.”
