Flag heroes Jarrad Schofield and Brett Montgomery return to Port Adelaide as assistant coaches while Eagles coach Michael Godden joins Crows

TRIPLE premiership-winning Subiaco coach Jarrad Schofield and 2004 premiership teammate Brett Montgomery have joined Port Adelaide as assistant coaches while Adelaide has added Eagles coach Michael Godden to finalise its 2019 panel.

TRIPLE premiership-winning Subiaco coach Jarrad Schofield and his 2004 Port Adelaide premiership teammate Brett Montgomery have joined Port Adelaide.

The pair have signed on as assistant coaches, Schofield expected to work with the team’s midfield and Montgomery with the forwards.

And the Crows yesterday announced Woodville-West Torrens coach Michael Godden will join the club as an assistant coach.

Adelaide’s Head of Football Brett Burton said Godden would assist the club’s midfield at AFL level and work closely with Scott Camporeale in the role.

Camporeale will take further responsibility around game strategy in season 2019.

“Michael has been a successful coach with Woodville-West Torrens for a number of years and brings a wealth of experience and positive attributes to our Club,” Burton said.

“He drives high standards, is an outstanding leader and communicator and we’re confident his coaching experience can help our midfield group in 2019.”

Marty Mattner will oversee the Crows’ defence and Ben Hart will be forwards coach. Heath Younie will coach the SANFL team combined with his duties as Development Manager.

The highly-rated Schofield’s reunion with Port has been on the cards for some time and was made official by Subiaco yesterday.

“The Subiaco Football Club wishes to congratulate league coach Jarrad Schofield who has accepted a coaching role with Port Adelaide for next season,’’ the Lions said in a statement.

“This is a wonderful achievement for Jarrad and the club is delighted that it has been able to assist an aspiring young coach achieve success in the WAFL and be rewarded with an opportunity at the AFL level. Jarrad has led Subiaco with distinction over the past six seasons, with Subiaco winning three premierships in that time, including the 2018 WAFL grand final on Sunday.

“Jarrad has had strong involvement with both the Subiaco and Port Adelaide football clubs and the club wishes to pass on its best wishes to Jarrad for the next step in his coaching journey.’’

Schofield’s son Taj made the All-Australian under-16 team this year and is a member of the Power's father-son academy.

Former midfield coach Michael Voss is expected to be upgraded to the role of senior assistant coach, becoming senior coach Ken Hinkley’s New right-hand man, following the departure of Matthew Nicks to Greater Western Sydney.
