Is it time to grab Hawthorn recruit Tom Scully in your SuperCoach Draft league? The Phantom looks at the form of Scully and four other Round 5 waiver wire targets.
Tom Scully (Haw) Mid
Round 4 Score: 110, Average: 70
Is one score enough to jump on the running machine? After scores of 48 and 51, Scully was a standout in his side’s Round 4 loss to the Saints, tallying 26 disposals — at 92 per cent efficiency — two goals and 110 points. The former Giant, who averaged 97 points per game in 2016, was rusty in the first two matches, recording a total of 12 clangers, but his performance on Sunday was far more convincing. Someone in your league will jump soon.
Jayden Hunt (Melb) Def
Round 4 score: 110, Average: 73
In a similar story to Scully, how big of a sample size with Hunt do you need? After making his name as a running-defender in 2017, the 24-year-old fell out-of-favour in 2018, making just six senior appearances. But he’s back in the side, playing a new role across half-forward. And, with his speed and creativity around goal, Hunt is having an impact. He tallied 16 disposals, three goals and 83 points against the Bombers in Round 3 and 13 disposals, seven tackles, two goals and 110 points against the Swans at the weekend. A great bench cover option.
Jasper Pittard (NM) Def
Round 4 score: 109, Average: 89
After settling into a SuperCoach-friendly role at the Kangaroos, the former Power defender has to be picked up if he’s still available. Pittard is the go-to man for the kick-ins and is the outlet man in defence, posting scores of 110 and 109 in the past two weeks. Get on!
Harry Cunningham (Syd) Mid
Round 4 Score: 130, Average: 96
In the opening three rounds, with scores of 91, 81 and 83, the hard-working Swan was solid, without being outstanding. And, because of that, he might still be available in your league. It won’t be like that for long with Cunningham tallying 25 disposals, 10 tackles eight marks and an equal-game-high 130 points against the Demons in Round 4.
Brad Sheppard (WC) Def
Round 4 score: 109, Average: 93
While he won’t be available in many leagues, the Eagle defender is flying under the SuperCoach radar. After scoring 93, 86 and 86 in the first three matches, Sheppard recording his first SuperCoach ton against the Dockers in Round 4. The rebounding-defender, who posted five scores of 100 or more last season, hit the target with all 27 of his disposals.
